It's just an oil pan, but bugs me a little bit. After having painted the block earlier, I can now see that painting sheet metal demands a quicker stroke/pass than cast iron or the paint may run. No, I am not going to sand and start over.

Use multiple light coats until covered. Run on an oil pan, I wouldn't worry about it! 65'

Depends on the application.
Race ride, no real care though I’ll take some care so it doesn’t look like a hack job.

Daily driver, same as above but with some actual care in paint application. If I get a little drip, OK, maybe try and cover it up with a few more layers of paint. I don’t do resto work but a drip would not be allowed to stay.

Location is also a varying issue. Oil pan, pfst, as said above, use it as is. Unless it really bothers YOU!

The only person that will ever see the run in the oil pan paint is the person that you "run over".....and that person probably won't live to tell anyone!!:poke:

So, you're more anal about the run than painting over the rust pits or the orange peel finish in some areas? :poke::lol:

I guess I am more anal than most. I cannot put a part back on my car unless it is the best that I can do. Maybe not the best in the world but it has to make me happy. I and my children will be looking at this for many years to come. If the solution is to lightly sand and re-paint- I would do it.

I would just tell people that was how it was from factory. You documented and duplicated that factory run.

Let me guess... you did not even block sand it 3 times and how was the “cut and buff?”
Please tell me you at leased cut and buffed that poor thing? Jeeze! Your a horrible person- not even civilized! LMAO!

honestly after a few days of drying- scotch bright it and spray over. It’s only an oil pan. MHO!

Wet sand it, skim coat with bondo and re-spray 6-8 light coats and 3 coats of clear. then buff like hell

The reason some of these old Mopars are still NOT restored to some extent and on the road 10-15 year later, is due to " the diseases of perfection-ism and anal -ism" ! LOL

I guess I am more anal than most.
Yeah, that is what I have heard about you....Being from the Bay Area and all!

I have never understood the use of this word in regards to being detail oriented.

powder coat it and be done with it......

You say it bugs you and you are bringing it up here for debate, so it must be an issue. You’ll feel better if you sand off the runs, lightly sand the rest, and give it a final coat. Easy to do while not in the car.

No, it don't bug me enough to re-do. It's just some of us are too perfection oriented for our own good. Just asking how many out there have a similar trait? Not asking what I should do next, thank you (lol).

Really ? An oil pan ? I barely worry about a run on the body ...lol

Seriously though too many over restored cars out there. These cars did not have perfect paint jobs from the factory. And they are meant to be driven... they will get chips and scratches and dings.

But the oil pan ? Ha! If it didnt have a run it wouldnt look right .
