My brother and I bought a 318 long block for his 64 cuda. It was of course used and off of Craigslist, so on the way home from the purchase we stopped at the local machine shop to have it hot tanked and inspected. They told me it will be ready in 2 days. It's been 3 weeks and we've called a couple times.

My question is, how long is too long? That was just the first machine shop we were recommended to but as time has gone by we have been getting many good recommendations, I feel like it shouldn't have taken this long.

My rule of thumb is if it takes three times as long as expected and they do not have a explanation then pick it up. Shops need a reality check every once in a while and if you show up and tell them your taking your money else where then maybe that will do it.

Show up unannounced and if your block hasn't been touched then say adios to that shop.

Go elsewhere...The shop I went told me they were busy and it would take a month or so until they could get to my block, much better to be honest and say you are busy than essentially lie and not get it done when they say.

As a former Shop Owner.

Hot Tanked {or} Jet Cleaned, and visually inspected.

Even a busy Machine Shop should knock that off within a 7-to-10 Days.
