Missed LAWN DARTS!
Saying the pledge of allegiance every morning to start the day.
I did not use the ink wells but some of the school desks I used had the provision.Don't remember Ink wells, but the Pencil sharpeners and the Pledge of Allegiance, you bet!
Thanks for the flashback to grade school, forgot the custodian would raise and lower the flag each day.My kids go to private school
Each morning the entire class meets outside for assembly
3rd grade has the privilege to raise and lower the flag each day while the entire school attends
Then the pledge of allegiance, and a hymn
(here is a picture from a few years ago, this was at the end of school day. i got to watch them lower Old Glory before dismissing school)

Remember that got 3 on each hand twice. Made you straighten your game up I’ll say.I remember 23 in the O.P.
Also, when I started grade 1 in 1968, we had a roll call where the teacher would call out your name and you had to say ''Present'' not ''Here'' or ''Yep'' or ''Yo''.
Then, we recited The Lord's Prayer followed by the National Anthem.
No exceptions. Everyone had to do it.
And the teacher had the ''strap'' sitting on the right corner of her desk and wasn't afraid to use it.
If anyone disrupted class or talked back, you got the strap and then were sent to the Principal's office.
If the matter was severe enough, he then contacted your parents who came and picked you up and you were sent home for the day and made to apologize to the teacher in front of the whole class the next morning.
That taught you manners and discipline.
And this was just regular school, not a private or Catholic school.
Boy, times have sure changed.....
Now if you look at the kid the wrong way or heaven forbid bark at them your in front of a judge.Remember that got 3 on each hand twice. Made you straighten your game up I’ll say.
Plus you have a cool looking cat in your avatar.Damn, there is some old, old folks on this site. I guess I'm young after all!
Yes sir, public school, all the girls wore tunics all the boys wore a dress shirt, dress pants and Oxford shoes, no sneakers or jeans. When you spoke to a teacher it was Mrs. Miss. or Mr. Oh Canada and the Lord’s Prayer was sung and recited every morning. And God save the Queen at the end of the day. Taught us respect and pride. Days gone by.I remember 23 in the O.P.
