How To:Biggest Magnum TQ Monster

Another fine choice is the 385 series 370 cube Lima engine. They don't get mileage worth snot, but they pull like a ***** in church.

If it feels healthy, I'd have total faith in the trans under you, if your worried, drop the pan. It would give you a chance to check to look for shavings and such anyway, I've heard anything more than a tablespoon is a rebuild is a good rule of thumb.

i more worry about what the other half will put it thru! LOL especially if i do the 426.

A 460 based Ford heavy duty truck motor, dummy. lol

where the hell did 90 cubes go! and i like how you havn't thrown a 440 or 413 in there yet! Traitor! lol

imagine how mad a 5.9L computer would be with a 7.2L lol

Ok, ok. I got it. This is the deal breaker. Sling a 549 cube International motor in it. That'll get er done.

Just make sure it shift's firm. If your willing to let the other half loose with a 426, I'm sure she knows how to put in in (D)... No OD in the city/towing!!!!

If you decide to tear into it, do enlarge the the last 3 feed holes, OD feed, in the output shaft by 30%, add the 2.74/1.54 gear set from a 42RH, a you can get them from wittrans.com, I love those people, they will give you good discounts if you tell them your a shop.

Enjoy!

If you dip into the trans, a few things that came to mind during the evening that will be helpful:

Get rid of the wavvy snap rings, go solid, go to factory tight tolerances, and download the atsg manual.

I've got it somewhere if you can't google it.

Do tear it down and inspect before you make your order so you know what you need. I hate the back and forth orders... :violent1:

Your going to need a press for the OD section, there is a looney toon spring that holds everything together that's under 800lbs of pressure.

After all that wittrans should have everything you need for on the cheap. They also have blow up diagrams on their site so you don't get lost.

Take your time, air test it, check it three times before you put it all back together. :)

:burnout:

Hey 805,
Small Block 426 Cubic Inch "Hemi-sized"
We designed this kit for hot street/bracket racing where maximum torque is needed and a light bob weight for quick acceleration is desired. It can be installed in either the 360 "LA" block or the newer Magnum blocks that can clean up at a 4.030" bore.

I think if it were me I'd leave the 5.9 alone for now. It's not a bad towing setup as-is unless you got a truck with 3.54s in it. In which case - i hope iot's flat where you're going...lol. Just seems like a lot of effort for a temperary thing. The trans, assuming it's in good shape now, would be fine stock too.
I am interested in that tunable PCM tho...

If you're going to put a cam in the 5.9, the R/T cam is a good choice. I think Crane makes it. 204/208 with lift in the .460 range IIRC (.458/.467). You do have to watch the lift with the stock mag heads.
I have this cam in my Dakota with a 5.2 with many modifications and dynoed 247 rwhp 265 rwtq with the M1 intake. A friend dynoed his 5.2 with the same cam but the stock kegger and was 215 rwhp and around 280ish on rwtq. Can only imagine this would make a 5.9 a real stump puller.
Another option if you don't want to dive into the 5.9 too much is switching from 1.6 to 1.7's rocker arms. Seen some good results from this alone.
