Trying to install a bearing in the lower section of the steering shaft. Trouble is a guy can’t slide the bearing on to the shaft so it will engage with the column housing.

Right behind you, the vice, put a deep socket over one end of pin, squeeze the other side with the vice, pin will move into area of socket.
Basically "press" it out .
Once it moves, it'll likely move easier, might need something to push pin thru the shaft.

heat & a press or a *strong* vice with a socket to back it up.

the last two i did, one yielded to the vice without too much coaxing. the other demanded the 12T hazard fraught press and some map to get moving. YMMV, RNT, PAYOR

I used the vise and a deep socket and drove it flush, and then took a drift and tapped it out the rest of the way thanks everybody!

That pin can be a pain to get out. Why not just install the bearing from the other end? You already have the column out of the car. Pull the wheel, remove the circlip holding the center shaft to the upper bearing and the shaft will slide right out.

This assuming that you have a '69 or older column. If it's '70 and newer, you would need to remove the steering lock daisy wheel too before the center shaft would slide out.

Thanks, I was able to get the lower pin out and got the shaft out of the housing after watching a couple of YouTube vids…
