Yeah and fleeing and eluding was just a misdemeanor and it didn't matter if you went head on in to on coming traffic so long as your car did not make impact if accident happen cause a driver overacted it was not your fault but the driver who panic.

that was the good old days but things change. now we have to be respectful and politically correct. if mom freaks out and hits the car in front of hers cause you scared her squealing your tires you can be blame for the accident

I don't know seem's kind of getto having junk cars, rv's, and boats out in front of the house. Not that I haven't done all of these for short periods of time on occasion for like a week or less. In my City as long as the junk is in the back or side yard behind a fence or gate your good and personally I like that ordinance.

If I want to store "my" stuff in "my" garage and park in "my" driveway, its no one elses business but my own. There are homes in my neighborhood that have the garages converted into rooms and they park in the driveway, so is that okay? And where does it say that cars are meant to be in the garage? So does that mean if you live in a home without a garage you can't own a car? And who are you to call other peoples belongings crap? What the have stored in their garage might be worth more than the house itself, I know mine is!

I agree to a point but if you're effecting the value of your neighbors houses by your actions, that's not fair either. You should be able to do anything on your own property as long as it doesn't hurt others. If you keep your "property" out of view, they should leave you alone. Put no trespassing signs up, take the plates off, lock the car, cover the VIN plate, and use a car cover. They'd have a hard time notifying the registered owner or filling out a form without any info. There's probably still some way they can haul your stuff off, but if it's under a car cover, how can they justify it as being an eye sore. All vehicles look pretty much the same under those conditons whether it's a brand new Rolls, a restored Hemi Cuda, or a rusted out Vega. Asking people to make their place presentable is not unreasonable if it's visible from another property. It's called, being a good neighbor. But there shouldn't be a law about it. What gripes me is the nit picking requirements about fence height, paint colors, type of plants, etc. How did we give up our property rights like this?

I was addressing the specific point of someone telling me how to use my garage and driveway. But I agree, for the most part, with what you are saying. In Vegas your vehicle can't be on blocks (or flat tires), no major parts missing (exterior), and must be parked on concrete or asphalt. I just keep my Cuda under a cover so there's no reason for anyone to complain. Out of sight, out of mind......and I'm usually going out of my mind :D

Wonder what kind of junk your local Commissioner's have in their yard? If all of our cars are ticketed, impounded and crushed, who's going to buy all those parts just sitting on the shelf?
Start by checking out local cars shows and car clubs around your area. If enough of you complain with your local government, you can get some things changed or have them amend the law. Local government doesn't like heat from local citizens. Remember election time is just around the corner!
I had a Code Enforcement guy stop by my house the other day looking for a address. Someone gave them a false address for a home internet business. He checked out my project cars and like them. Not once did it come up that the three project cars and my dirt track racecar where licensed for the road. Now that would be funny to get a ticket for a unlicensed racecar. Glad I live way out in the country where it is not regulated by city ordinances.
 
See who the notice is from,I live outside the city limits and receive the same notice from the county health dept about abandoned vehicle notice that gave me 10 days to comply.
I put those vehicle in my backyard and complied...Real estate agency called it in,they were trying to sell a house at the end of the street...
If they were inspected and registered they could do nothing..
If you just get antique plates for it,you do not have to have it inspected in Texas and the plates are good for 5 years.
Another way you can tackle this problem,is to put stickers all over it MSD,Holley,Comp Cam...in race car fashion and be sure to put Large numbers on both front doors ,remove all sight of registration and inspection...and now it is an off road vehicle only...
Race car only...Do not laugh,I have done it and got away with it.Though,I did not push my luck to far,I sold that car...

as far as I'm concerned, anyone who has a problem with someone parking their own vehicle on their own property can take a flying you-know-what at a rolling donut.
 
I drove my new Barracuda home from Ft Gordon Ga in 1967 and parked it in my parents driveway. I flew back to Ga to finish my enlistment ( got out in Feb of 68) and had a notice on my car..unlicensed and a citation. The neighbor next door was a witch and filed a complaint. It had plates and insurance and I had to go to court to get it straightened out. Good old Leona, crazy lady!! This was in 1967, the good old days.

I don't have a problem with people parking cars on their own property, as long as the vehicle isn't just sitting there collecting dust. I just find it funny the way some people use their garages in my neighborhood. These are the same people complaining about their car getting broken into while they sleep.
 
A neighbor of mine has a junker parked in his driveway. His neighbor keeps complaining about it, so he put a nasty looking car cover on it. When code enforcement comes around to investigate the car and asks if the car is registered and if he can look under the car the owner simply says yes it is and no he can't look at it so code enforcement just goes away. He has been playing this game for years.

So I guess if it is under a cover then code enforcement doesn't have the right to look under the cover?

Actually you do have a problem with people parking on their own property, if its not in a manner that you approve of. If they aren't violating any codes or laws, whats the problem? And who are you to judge how people use their own garages? It's their garage and if they're not breaking any laws, stay out of their business. If they're running a meth lab or making bombs call the authorities, otherwise leave them alone. I have two vehicles parked in my driveway "collecting dust", all done within code. I have a garage full of gear that I use for the different types of business that I do, thats worth more than the house is. So am I wrong to do this??? Am I an undesirable citizen??? I guess if I look at it like you do I am......and I'm guessing so are alot of other members on this site. Damn I'm proud to be an American!

Once you cover your car, you have an "expectation of privacy", they either need your permission or a search warrant to look under it. If they do it without either and try to cite you or tow the vehicle, then that falls under another category...illegal search and seizure.
 
Given the housing market in Vegas....dont see how a POS in the driveway is going to hurt the price of house in the neighbor hood.....

these days it just shows that someone still lives in the house...

Yep, seriously! You should see some of the c-rap in some of my neighbors yards, I just laugh at most of it. Theres this old couple at the end of my street who have a nice 65/66 Mustang in the driveway with the cover all torn up from the weather we had. They keep their 2011 Mustang in the garage. I personally would have it the other way around.
 
Just an FYI....

As another Houstonian, I saw on the news last week, that if your neighborhood has a sidewalk, and that sidewalk goes through your driveway where your car is parked you can get a ticket for obstructing the walkway.

Dumb and a waste of money and time for us taxpayers. I don't know if this is inside or outside the city limits, but either case it sucks.

Luckily I live in a older neighborhood with no side walks, no street signs, one way in and one way out..... and the best part about it.... NO HOMEOWNERS ASSOCIATION!

Hell I had a friends bright yellow tree chipper in my yard for 2 weeks, and not one word could they say about it. I'll only live in places like this from now on, cause the yard nazi's are ridiculous !

I don't mean to be rude, but I have every right to express my opinion on this site. I respect yours, so why do you keep calling me out? I don't like it when people try and put words into my mouth and make hasty generalizations. I'm not some garage Nazi calling people out about their garage situation.

Here's my definition of a clunker: A rusted, leaking, sitting on blocks chunk of metal. I don't like seeing this on a driveway, I'm sure most homeowners would agree with me. I'm also proud to be an American.

Former neighbor in Mesa AZ had a car backed in his driveway under a cover. It did not stop the code enforcer from walking up his driveway and lifting the cover to verify the tabs were current. Don't know if it was legal or not.....

I never said anything about you not having the right to express your opinion as I have been expressing mine, thats what the comment "I'm proud to be an American" was about.

As far as putting words in your mouth, making hasty generalizations, and being a garage Nazi...I've highlighted a few things you said.

You never mentioned "clunker" in your other posts, read what you said about cars in the driveway. I highlighted that above.

As far as calling you out, I never called you anything. So take it as you will. Just remember that the situations that you described and feel are undesirable are situations that many of us here are in.

That sounds kind of "iffy" since it was on private property. If the tires were flat and there was on city ordinance/code that states something about that, then the inspector could site the good ole "probable cause" since it was breaking code. Now if you're in a HOA, then you're probably screwed all around. Most of them can even look over your wall into your back yard and fine you for "discrepencies". I won't live anywhere that has a HOA, but that my personal preference.
