I GOT A TICKET/NOTICE for my car thats in the driveway.

I'm kinda pissed, I got a ticket on my Dart (while I'm at work) that was in my driveway. I live in Texas and I didn't know I can get a notice/ticket on my car. The car is being working on in my driveway and not on the street. What the hell! Not only that, I live outside the city limits.

In the mid 90's the city I live in passed a beautificaton ordinance junk cars, uncut grass, building materials, etc. I took my Duster out of storage in 2000 an never had a problem till one of my neighbors ask how much I wanted for it for Mrs. So an So to which I replied tell her she doesn't have enough money to buy it. Two weeks later the local Chief of police puts a ticket on the car on my property. I called him and he came out to the house and I went ballistic on him. Three of the adjoining properties to me never cut the grass behind their houses and the grass around the house across the street hasn't been cut since 1994. He replied we don't know how to get hold of them, the owners live out of state. I pointed to the for sale sign hanging from the porch with the telephone number in 8 inch letters and he said get plates on it and we wont bother you anymore! Ain't seen em since!

I got a notice once that said my grass/weeds were too tall and my car had to be parked on concrete or asphlat. Only one of the tires was halfway on the dirt. I called the Enforcement Officer to come out and show me what he was talking about, just so I could point a few things out to him face to face. When he came I asked him about the four other houses around me with taller grass and weeds, and the other homes that had cars parked completly in the yard that had been there since I moved into the neighborhood years ago. He was pretty cool and said he only investigates complaints and glanced over at the house cross corner of me. I just smiled and said thank you, I'll fix the infractions. The old lady cross corner of me has always given me snobby looks, I guess its cause I"m from Hawaii with long hair. Anyway I got the floor jack and move the front of the car six inches. I also cut the grass and stopped watering it so it turned to dirt and had the big tree removed. Now she can look at the large dirt patch I have in front since there no code against having just dirt. I call it my desert landscaping!

Maybe there should be a law requiring my neighbor to have an old car parked in his driveway as I don't want his meticulous yard bringing my property value UP.
Actually I live in the country so I don't have any close neighbors, been reading about this type of thing happening around the country in the car magazines for a couple years now. Hasn't happened here yet, probably will take a while since we are in rural farm area and farmers have all kinds of unregistered farm equipment that sits for months at a time. Actually had this trouble in a town we lived in with the dirt circle track racecar, cops said we couldn't have an unlicensed car on our property, how do you register a car that no longer has a vin number, the mayor told us to throw a cover over it, we figure it was our neighbor on the other side complaining, guess we should have called the cops every time his 5 year old boy was outside squeeling at the top of his lungs.

Damn dude youre right next door to me. I,m in rosenberg.County has a health ordinance they use to prevent cars from sitting. There is an exemption for special interest cars and competition vehicles. Paint some numbers on trhe windshield and get some time slips from your buds and tell them to blow it out their arse. Its what I did about my dart. Dont need tags and registration on a race car.My 53 truck was an antique so it was exempt also. I did have to explain it in court though. You can go to fbc,s web site and see the ordinances.

Pics or it didn't happen

All these replies here is why I live 22 miles out in the country down 3 miles of rough gravel road.If you can throw a rock and hit your neighbors house, your living too dang close. That's for sure. But even as far out as we are out still once in awhile problems.Neighbors call Sheriff Dept.Got 2 dirt roads to my property, private roads on subdivision.I love to drive my Aspen open headers like on a dirt track.Whats wrong with that?11pm a deputy does investigation/com-plaint at my gate.Nothing ever happen.Neighbors were totally drunk. As long as keep my car tires don't touch the county road and no eye witness it did, sober witness that is.Can't do anything. But those neighbors gone, didn't pay the taxes or trailer payments.Took their bass boat full of empty beer cans and mange chow dogs with them.So still drive like street stock at Texana and Shady Oaks down a 1/4 mile dirt road to the mail box.Can shoot guns 24/7 out here. Not a dang thing Sheriff Dept or Game Warden can do about it.Oh the wife still complains don't irritate the neighbors with my cars.Guess we need to buy a bigger farm with no neighbors near us.Make my own dirt track.
God I love living in the country and my Mopars with open headers.

That sounds kind of "iffy" since it was on private property. If the tires were flat and there was on city ordinance/code that states something about that, then the inspector could site the good ole "probable cause" since it was breaking code. Now if you're in a HOA, then you're probably screwed all around. Most of them can even look over your wall into your back yard and fine you for "discrepencies". I won't live anywhere that has a HOA, but that my personal preference.
My neighbor thought it was "iffy" as well, he contacted the city and they claim that any vehicle in the front yard needs to be registered and insured and that they have the right to check for current tags, even if that means they have to walk up the driveway and lift the cover. Code enforcement here was strange. Jet Skis could be in your front yard on a trailer, as long as they moved once a week. Car trailer, by itself, is a vioaltion. However, if it is hooked to a tow vehicle it is not. I think what made matters worse was the code enforcer had family in the neighbor hood. We did have any sort of HOA. I am glad we moved out into the country. We live in an unincorporated county here, so any thing goes. People living in school buses, steel shipping containers etc.

I got a ticket for parking on dirt in AZ. Talked to the code enforcer and her told me that the vehicle needed to be on an improved surface, so I went down to Home Depot and bought 4 12"x12" paver type of blocks to park on, when he cam for a follow up he siad it was fine.....go figure....

I might have to try that one

Know what the code says and use it to your advantage.

In our area code enforcement can not enter on the property unless invited, period. If they can't see it from the street, they can't do anything. If the neighbors allow them in their backyard and they can see over the fence, they can work off that.

My area city code says the vehicles must be parked not touching native soil and on concrete. It does not say the composition of the concrete. They hate pavers but it works. Crushed concrete aggregate also meets the standard as much as they hate it.

Knowing the code can help you immensely.

Its a good thing you have tall walls Rob...

Many years ago on LI, a buddy of mine had a neighbor make a complaint about the car he was rebuilding on the side of his house. The neighbor had told another that he did it and it got back to my buddy.

Well, one night we filled a yard sprayer with high concentrate bleach and walked all around his front yard. His manicured lawn looked like crap for many weeks after that.

What is America coming to when we lose our property rights in cases like this? They have never bothered me out in the county but I have heard of people nearby who have been written up on some kind of junk in the yard law.

I think it was passed after the scrap companies greased some politician's hands.

Another prime example of Gestapo in America. While I do agree that people should keep up their property to some standard out of respect to their neighbors, you should still have some right to do what you want.

If you choose to move into an area such as an HOA then you should know the rules before moving in.

I had the township ordinance officer come to a piece of property that I own adjacent to my home, it is zoned C1 which allows me to to do a little more than a residential lot. He called and left a message on my home phone stating this, that and the other. Keep in mind the property is fenced, gated and no trespassing signs posted all around the perimeter. He said in his message that he had a complaint and came by to see what was going on, he opened the gate and allowed himself onto the property to inspect it. He found nothing really wrong with what is there but still complained for the complainant. Upon hearing the message I promptly went to the township office and proceeded to give him a piece of my mind. First off he trespassed, he should have asked me to meet with him. I told him and the township supervisor that if it happened again I would call the Sheriff and have him arrested for trespassing, secondly I told him I would take out a trespassing warrant against him and if he did it again he would go directly to jail.

Neither one of them argued with me as they knew I was in the right, and I have had no problems since. When he comes around now he is polite and asks if I would walk him through the yard to see what is going on, which I do.

Hell of it is he is a retired Deputy Sheriff.

Here you go :D I had all the trees on my property removed.

I never remove trees from my property as it is against the rules and I would need a permit to do so.

Occasionally I will move a tree is pieces to the woods behind my house, but I would never remove a tree. :)

Who's rules. So if you have a tree that could fall and damage your property you have to ask permission to remove it?

More and more in this country we have to ask permission to do something, WHY?

Yes, even if it is totally dead you are supposed to get a permit to remove it and then you are supposed to replace it with another tree on your property.

Not here, just call a landscaping company and they come and take it out. Its a desert so none of these tress are "indiginous" to the area. Plus its that much less water you're using, and they like that out here.

Anyway the tree in the back was cracking the wall and getting to close to the pool. The tree on the side was beginning to crack the wall on that side and lifting the concrete pad the the pool pump and filter are on. So those trees definately had to go.
