I Hate the DMV.

Umm.. your cars name is The Nightmare.LOL
I just paid $260.00 for tags,title,taxes on a car I bought today.

Jim

California just f'ed me out of $81 -- that's right : eighty-one dollars -- to register my '72 Coronet .
Thank GOD my car's smog test exempt ... for now .

Ca also automatically charges commercial registration on trucks ; that was a Jerry Brown senior special .

Emissions tests are a joke for old(er) vehicles . Once a vehicle's 20 years old , it should be exempt ; 0-19 years old should only be subject to a tail pipe emissions test and NOT those stupid I/M tests !!!

V.I.N.'s changed for 1981 to the 20-character arrangement . This was done to standardise the v.i.n.'s for all manufactures ( U.S. market models at least ). Hell , GM didn't even give an engine code on their dash v.i.n.'s until 1972 !

The thing that sucks is that CA-DMV's v.i.n. check deal online won't recognise 17-character v.i.n.'s

I had a typo on the title to my duster, it said 4D.
After a short wait, an older lady at the DMV said they never made a 4-door duster.
I used to own a duster.
It took about 30 minutes but they corrected the title.

DMV registration fees here are not too bad, But!!!

Instead of yearly registration fees they lump them all on you personal property taxes.
Yes if your taxes are not up to on your house you cannot update the yearly sticker on your licence plate.

They include everything, motercycles, atv, camping trailers, car trailers, etc.

And they just passed a law that antique vehicles will not be depreciated but appreciated.
Which means that all my antiques that are registered for road use, the county will use 100% blue book value unless other proven otherwise.

You cannot just let the tags go dead while you store them, when you re-register them you have to pay all back taxes plus 10% interest.

Greedy bastards

You think that amount is bad? Just wait until the dmv is privatised and then they can charge whatever the hell they feel like. That fee would likely be double.

Uhh, you are about as dumb as a box of rocks. Keep your socialist comments north of my boarder. :violent1:

The way things are right now , the DMV charges whatever the hell the individual states want them to charge .
The DMV is a monopoly , just like the IRS . Zero competition here is just like a single person or company making a desirable item : it's a seller's market .
