I thought I was getting close to finally hearing this car start and maybe drive it for the first time... Getting "close" seems to be bringing out all the stupid "not so fast there, Skippy" gremlins that want to keep this car a permanent garage car.
With all the z-bar and adjusting rod not lining up issues, as if that weren't enough, I also have discovered a "POPPING" noise under the dash when pushing the clutch in.. happens when pressed deep and when returning.. Looks / sounds like the over center spring..??? And, the pedal will go all the way to the floor if pressed deep enough and stay there.. Seems to return ok if not pressed that far, but I know that something is wrong...no idea how to figure out what it is though..

The geometry must be way off on something. The wrong Fork or Z-bar? Sounds like your pushing the pressure plate past center. You don't want to do that to often. You could damage the pressure plate.

Do you have a diaphragm style clutch?
If so, that over center spring needs to be removed.
That could be part of your problem...

Frustrating isn't it. What is more frustrating is that you now have 2 different threads about the same subject. :BangHead: :BangHead: :poke::lol:

Too be honest, I'm not sure. It came with the car. And even though i did install it, I honestly wouldn't know the difference between a diaphragm style and whatever else. Is there something visually different..?

Sorry... but why keep my f'ups to just my car.. I might as well f'up the threads too...lol
Really, I guess I'm just in a panic mode and not keeping track of it...sorry.

Have to figure out why the ball studs on each end of your z-bar aren't level. That likely a big part of the popping.

The adjustment rod should be really close to level, as should the z bar arms.

Diaphram clutch has a bunch of arms where the throwout ride/engages. A Borg&beck usually has 3 really heavy U hoop looking arms. Look here at the brewers site

Where the through out bearing goes against the pressure plate . It either has three large fingers or

Diaphragm a bunch of small ones .

Don't you know any mopar guys near to come take a look?
One mechanically inclined mopar friend near.. We've known each other 40+ years, but he's been laid up for 18 months and not mobile. A couple other "mopar" friends...but as novice as I am, I'm way ahead of them "mechanically"...

I have the diaphragm clutch

You need to remove the over center spring. There is a safe way to do that with washers. Stretch the spring with the pedal and put washers in the coils. Release the pedal and that loosens the spring to remove it. There is a thread on this site with pictures I believe.

Ok... Thank you..! Could that cause any damage with it being in there with me pressing on the pedal several times..or is it more for the return action..?

You will need to remove the OC spring with a diaphragm clutch, but be careful around the pedal if you disconnect the linkage with the OC spring in and the pedal up, because it will slam the pedal down and you don't want a body part in the way if that happens. I've seen many cars with dents in the floorboard from it.

Also, mopar guy or not, I'd get a friend, have him/ her press the pedal to your direction, get in, down, around, flashlight, and carefull examine all the linkage movement. Look for unwanted flexing, etc. There has been cases where EG the levers on the z bar have become cracked, or the tube itself, losing movement, as well as the ball studs/ brackets and frame attachment.

By the way, it can't be a Gremlin, unless the rusty doors have fallen off at the hinges LOLOL

I knew a feller who had a Gremlin Levis edition in the 90s. he put a ladder rack on it and used it as a work vehicle...

Tell your Demon/Gremlin it has a great grandson....and his name is Dakota. Born in 2004 and is in my garage! :BangHead: It has fought me since 2018! Every. Single. Bolt.

What kind of clutch do you have in it? Did you put a diaphragm clutch in it? If so, you must remove the over center spring.
