Every time I go ip to Peoria area I like getting the burger barge

I know where you mean... I work on the other side of town 1/2 a block south of rigos tacos (a place I never eat, not a fan of that kind of food)

What's back there? Freehill Asphalt. Lane poultry used to be there and the State Garage. My house used to be on Herron Court right next to the State Garage fence. The 2018 flood wiped it out.

That's exactly where I'm at, the State garage.
Yeah that's the flood that US24 in front of the old McDonald's got to be 9' deep.... And why they tore it down and moved east... I remember moving cars from the back lot to the front of the building then later that day we called Dralle Chevy and ended up hiking those cars we moved up front, down there to keep them high and dry.
I have a picture somewhere showing a foot of water right thru the middle of our shop, out floor tapers towards the middle, my toolbox is along the wall basically right behind Freehill's and the water covered the wheels but didn't quite get to the bottom of the cabinet itself. I got a pic of it here somewhere. Had a caravan that had hit a deer here that the ECM was hanging and almost dragged the ground, waiting for it's turn in the body shop, I brought that in and put it on the lift to keep the water from shorting that out...
We were unloading the parts room into every pickup truck we could find to get stuff off the floor, and keep from wrecking stock...

Steve Freehill is my brother-in-law. I used to work for them in the 80's when they were in the other building right next to you. And it's a small world after all!...LOL

You guys are speaking my language!! I live about 15 miles from Peoria. It's a **** hole town anymore I try to stay out of but there are some good restaurants there. Avantis opened a location in Pekin so if I want them I go to Pekin, it's al little closer anyway. East Peoria has really done a nice job in the Leve District with shops and food and, it's much nicer down there so we go there a lot.

There's a Pizza Palace in Gilman...The one in Paxton closed. ROAD TRIP

I eat at K&H over there once in a while (the truck stop) but I've never been to the pizza place you mentioned. Might have to try it.

The old "Pinkies" in Gilman is now a completely remodeled "Crossroads Cantina"...It's a good spot. Right uptown on the west side of the road. There is a lounge side and family dining side. You can eat on either side and can walk thru to the salad bar in the back. If you want a good cod dinner...Blondies in Crescent City on Friday evenings is well worth the trip for about $10

I ran into Terry Brutlag last night at the Depot. He said your car was pretty sharp.

Ain't seen him in about 6-8 months
He was a winter snowbird for us for a few years, but it's been a few years ago. He stops in once in a while.
In warm months he likes to stop at that place on 24 (not Blondie's the other one haha)
One day I seen his truck there on way home and stopped and had a beer with him...
Have to admit that there's a lot more days I'd have liked to...
Weird thing about that bar
Occasionally she has local bands playing on Friday or Saturday night.
We've been down there for that a handful of times.
The first time I was in there the bartender asked me by name what I was drinking...
I couldn't believe it / I knew the owner Tina and her brother John from grade school/jr high school days. They lived in the same town as I grew up in for a few years, this would have been early 80s... She recognized me before I did her, probably because I wasn't expecting to see someone behind the bar the first time in there, that I hadn't seen in probably 40 years...
I grew up about an hour north of Crescent City in a town called Monee.
Work, and dealing with my brothers (especially Younger one, as I'm the middle of 3) in selling moms house has definitely had me thinking about dropping by there after work and drowning some sorrows on the way home... Problem with that would be that I need to hang on to my CDL haha... (House sold/ closed on today and I also stopped and renewed that CDL both, today so I had to take off..on days I do have to go to work, I'm almost a regular there at the Casey's though.... I don't think there's a day between M-F that I ain't in either that one, the Casey's in watseka or both locations.
I wish they'd sell me a whole potful of their sweet tea at a time.

That Casey's tea is top shelf. I'm enjoying some at this very moment. Yep the Depot by Blondies is actually where I saw Terry. Terry's a bar hopper and a fun guy to visit with. I didn't know him until we moved to Crescent but I went to high school with his wife and her sister. Getting stuck in the middle of the family stuff after the loss of a parent can be a royal pain in the ***. Isn't it enough just to lose your mom...without adding all the sibling turmoil into the package? Hopefully you won't encounter that B.S. It reads like you might be already. Tina is a real piece of work for sure...she has done well with the old IGA grocery store as it makes for a nice roomy Tavern. She keeps it clean and generally well stocked. Always willing to make improvements and the live music is a nice bonus.

I am in Ohio almost every year whatever weekend falls around roughly Aug 10-14 or so. And I'm not far from Sandusky, where I go, he always talks about a fishing charter right near there, I need to see if I can twist his arm and see if he's out there "then" and see if I can ride along.... I think he's around Put in Bay on lake Erie.... We occasionally cook out at lunch, at our work , and Terry always brought in lots of fresh caught panfish, no comparison to store bought.i definitely miss that. ..
