im discusted with old guy purists

-
Every part on my car screams.......... FOOK you purists!!!

Unless its something rare worth big$$$, I think a person should do what they want and have fun with their car. My valiant use to be a '66 with a slant 6 with colum shift, now has a 360/4spd, to make piss off a purist further the guy who built it put a '65 front and rear end on it, further yet the inside fender tag has the vin tag from '64 on it. It's kind of a frankenstien car.....makes no diff to me, puts a smile on my face everytime I drive it:cheers: Have lots of old timers tell me too bad someone pulled out the original drive train, they wrecked that car,as they got great gas mileage or at least get a two barrel on that thing and proper exhaust (they make me feel like a teenage punk againLOL).......tired of explaning that the car is not about economy its about FUN, the gas mileage comments explain my avitar:happy10:

so you are the only thats allowed an opinion?

Ok,the other day,an older gent brought a ezgo golf cart for my bro in law to paint.I happen to be there working on my 71 dart, when the guy asked my bro in law,who ruined the darts in your yard here?MY bro in law said, they belong to my bro in law,and hes right there working on it now.Well the guy turned red, because he new i heard him, hell,i was standing less than 5 feet from him.I simply asked the man, sir, why do you think i have ruined my cars?He tells me that if there not 100%original,then they have no value. So i told the guy one of my cars was a 6 cylinder, the other i bought had a lot missing, and wasnt a 340 car,so i dont feel like im destroying a piece of history or any thing.I know there are people that dont like what i do to my cars, especially older folks, thats ok,i dont like how they pretend to restore a car original and then use basecoat clear coat paint on it.That is about as original as my 73 six cylinder dart, that now has 17 inch cobra wheels on it.But i dont tell people there ORIGINAL cars are crappy, were crappy from the factory, and are still crappy because there put back original.I told the guy,if he wanted to waste his money putting the original slant six back in his 69 charger, thats his choice, ill wave as i pass him in my modified 318 dart, that people actually like to see.

Just keep this in mind.

When there is a nice, original Mopar for sale that you just have to buy, don't ever, ever, ever tell the owner anything other than you plan on fixing it up just like it came out of the showroom.

Some of those guys will flip out if you say you would probably put in a bigger motor or make it into a race car.
If so, you may be screwed.

How do I know?

I tried that with a 318 convertable chalenger, orange, white top. doH!!

On my last purchase, a 64 dart 270 4dr. The owner stated that it's probably just good for parts. And I replied that it will go to saving two others at least. And suprisingly he was quite cool with that. And I've been there before when a friend was buying a basket case to turn into a race car and that was mentioned and the guy blew up and started cussing and throwing stuff. I'm glad the car was already loaded and the paperwork already done.

These type of guys (purists) need to go to an automotive museum if they want to see "perfect" restorations. Or maybe car shows, even then many cars have upgrades. Sh*t, people upgrade new cars too. The old 50's customs were a big deal in their days. Everybody loved the customs. I don't think too many purists complained about those.

Anyways, I don't have a problem with guys with rare cars for trailering them, or preserving them. That's their thing.

The majority of us want to drive them, & build them/improve them to our own taste. I know I take a chance driving mine, but that's why it's insured. I enjoy driving a car you don't see every day. Nothing like an old Mopar.

I can see both sides of this to a point. I love seeing muscle cars restored to looking stock (while having a lot more under the hood) and hate seeing them with those stupid-looking way oversized wheels that make them look like some child's toy (and just try to get those no-profile tires to hook if you have any torque!), but hey, if we all liked the same thing the world would be a boring place. If it isn't your car, don't worry about it and keep your mouth shut. There are people out there who think we're idiots for having steel wheels and dogdish hubcaps too.

This may make me an "old guy purist" but I do think that anyone who over mods a rare care like a Hemi car, 6-pack car, Shelby Mustang, or anything like that should have his car confiscated and he should be found guilty of automotive treason and sentenced to 200,000 miles in a Prius pulling a trailer.

He said: ".....if there not 100%original,then they have no value"

Oh, really?

Never argue with an idiot. People will wonder who the fool is.

Fix up your cars how you want them!Nothing is original on my 340 duster and the color is wrong and the list goes on..but it isn't all cut up except the hole for the cd player which was there when I got the car my girlfriend likes purple so now she's really liking the mopar thing (been a chevy girl all her life) and the 340 is more than she expected.just build them for your taste and budget and enjoy the ride!!!and how come I can't seem to upload a pic of the car??with this post?????HaHa I figured it out and A picture that fit's!!!!!

Tell him to look up prices on the Ebody clones (or just about anything Ebody). Abody prices are headed that way too. He's a dumbass.

Every thing old brings money now.Old stuff is getting hard to find, especially cars, and in our hobby, mopars. So i think you can do about what you want, somebody will want it.

LOL, When me and my dad went to go buy his 50 dodge the car had a bone stock restoration. the guy asked my dad after he bought it "What are you going to do with it?" my dad tells him "im going to chop it up, throw an S-10 suspension in, customize everything and then drive the piss out of it." I looked back when we were driving away and the guy was on his front porch crying. LOL

Lol, at crying. Awesome car!

I'm an old car purist, too.

My question is, why do you place so much importance on what others think? Did you really work that hard and spend that much money to receive accolades? None of those idiots on the street have 1/10th the knowledge you have acquired while working on your car(s). Would you see a doctor who knows less about medicine than you do? Would you heed the advice of an attorney who never read a law book? An accountant who cannot count? Then, why on Earth do you get so animated over casual comments made by idiots who probaby aren't even active in the hobby?

seems to me that these purist only know how to read the brochure that came with the car and nothing else. if everyone made their cars orig. then we wouldn't have the cars we have today or the people. i will never own something that is completely stock, even when i get to be an old fart. its gratifying knowing you did something different than someone else to make it stand out versus look the same.

awww... come on guys, to each there own.

my 74 swinger is certainly not "pure" in any sense of the word. started life as a 318 grocery getter (crap brown at that!) and my grandpa who bought it always wanted to paint it red and hop up the engine. my point is, if anyone ever told me i ruined my car i would have to say 5-mph bumpers, restricted air flow, and a restyled rear bumper did that already... i'm just trying to fix it!

That isn't it at all. Many "purists" know as much about cars as anyone else. More than most in some cases. I doubt that was the case with the guy mentioned in this thread though. There are different levels of "purists" too.
I have a stock hood on my 383S for the street and would never consider putting silly oversized wheels on it and instead have steel wheels and dogdish hubcaps like the ones that came on it originally...BUT, the rear wheels are 15x8 to allow more rubber, it has 11.5 to 1 TRW's, a solid cam, a holley on a single plane intake, electronic ignition, an aftermarket fuel system and exhaust system, a Dana 60 (which was in it when I bought it), and fenderwell headers (that were on it when I bought it). My car is nowhere near pure but I have been called a "purist" because I keep it looking stock instead of having flashy wheels and a hood scoop. I even repainted the white headers black to make them less obvious. I definitely love stock-looking cars and hate to see those trendy giant wheels on a classic car (can you tell that is one of my pet peeves?) but I would never put someone or their car down for having different taste than I do. Pursuing happiness in whatever way we see fit is what the U.S.A. is all about.

We get so animated because we spent time and money on our pride and joy and then someone comes along and tells us that it isn't right ect... I don't tell purests that they shouldn't restore there cars to bone stock (except they usually use a base/clear) so why do they tell us that our cars are not perfect just they way we like them.

Way back when my car was first driveable I had some guy walk over, stick his head in the window, and comment on how I had the wrong grain on my door panels and that they were from a `69 instead of a `68. I told him not to look under the hood.... the 6 Bbl. would probably give him a heart attack!

BTW: He owns a stock `68 Formula S 4 spd. car. Complete with missing front side marker lights, missing antenna, and a really spiffy set of Pep-Boys shackle bars for his sagging rear springs.

OH... J.R. Your Dad's car ROCKS!

Some people just need to stay home.:-?
Until they can have an open mind to learn.

I will do my car my way!!
and if you can't say anything positive or nice
Keep your mouth shut or stay home.=D>
There are a lot of people out there that all they know is
to find something wrong and go with it.:angry7:
Its easy to find something deferent to ***** about for these people.
That is there way of thinking they know it all,
Then they go home and say
to there self how smarter they are then most. Sad but true.:-D

I enjoy seeing creativity and mod's dun to cars.
I don't think I am an old purist, I think if it works for you do it.

/6 4 door 4 BBL not 4 sale!! :-D

You know what they say, Opinions are like a$$holes, Everyone has one and they all stink.

I find myself more interested in doing stock looking cars now but that wasnt all ways the case and I can still still enjoy race cars and modified cars.

Of coarse stock looking to me means dont look under the hood, LOL

I'm with Adam. This is more my trend now with my '79 Magnum. My Cuda reeeks late 70's minus the tires sticking out of the wells and no side pipes by the way.

Truely, the bottom line is do what you want to YOUR car and don't look back. If stock OE is your thing, fine, but please do not preach to me about what to do and whats wrong. I allready know whats wrong. And your preaching about it is just another thing to add ot the list.

God bless the restore cause if I get it.......... it's over!
