During the process of my husband getting his 1972 Duster restored some of the parts have came up missing. I have been given a list and I've been assigned the challenge of finding replacements. Is there a parts manual that list the manufacture number of parts? It seems to me some parts are interchangable between years, but I don't know how to check on this. For example I was looking on ebay at a hood latch support. The one shown for a 73-74 Duster A-Body looks the same to me as a '72 support. I don't want to buy things that won't fit. I need all the help I can get so if you have any suggestions let me know.:newb:

Welcome to the FABO family!!!!

On small parts there are no interchange manuals that I am aware of other than a collection of factory parts manuals. With those you would spend a lot of money getting one for each year.

Your best options is to post the parts list of what you need with the 1972 Duster and any other information that may be needed for your parts. Engine size, tranny and suspension set up is also good information to provide so others can help you.

Welcome to the best A body Mopar site on the web!

Just ask away.that ebay link, for me anyways, does not show the support in question.

As far as a parts interchange manual, there use to be a huge book some of the local wrecking yards had that showed what interchanged with what. But that was 15 years ago the last time I saw one. Most of the interchangeable parts knowledge comes from years of getting dirty, or lots of research from others experiance.

The interchange manual you speak of is the Hollander Interchange Manual. I have every year from the early 1920 through 2003, they only interchange certian things and very little on small parts. You can't even interchange seats or seat tracks and that it is the same way for most small items.

Thats it, could not remember the name of it to save my life lol.

I just remember a few local yards had them and would look thru them every once in awhile.

Those books are great. They have now gone to discs only starting in 2008 so there are no more books being produced. The disc is $625.00 so my collection has ended as soon as I get the 2007 books.

They are still doing the wheel and wheelcover books at the moment.

I'm jealous. I only have the 1941 thru 1994 Hollanders.

They are great aren't they. My oldest is an 8th edition and it is the the one that covers the 1920s. I have only seen two 8th editions and bought them both. My buddy with the local salvage has one of them so if anything ever happens we will have at least one between us. I am after a first edition if one ever shows up but I doubt my pockets will be deep enough. I also have most years of the foreign and the Eaton axle Hollander manuals also.

My furrin books only go back to 1955. I used to work in a large yard that was closing and relocating. The boss said to toss all the old Hollanders in the dumpster, so I backed the "dumpster" I was driving over to the door and loaded up. Downright incredible what you can learn from these, but as you stated, they don't cover everything. I've been contemplating the creation of a Mopar only interchange manual for years, but not sure how to go about it, since copying info from Hollander would be a no-no.

Mitchell created an interchange in around 1966 and used the Hollander numbering system. Hollander sued Mitchell and won.

Thanks for all the info. I think I'll visit the local salvage yard and see if they have a Hollanders interchange manual. It's a big yard. I can't believe they wouldn't have a manual. Just hope it's the right year. I should have thought of this to begin with.

Did you read the thread? Hollander deosn't do much on small parts like the hood latch support you mentioned. It will list a hood, a header panel and a core support but not a hood latch support. You are in the best place here on FABO that I know of to get those answers and great deals on the parts too.
