Is this Duster overpriced?

The ad answers your question. Se where it clearly says that it's over 5K above the average price of those cars. That should tell you something.

Besides that, no it's nowhere near worth it, because "I" don't want a Duster.

Nice auto small block car.
Thats about it.
Worth 18- 20k
without lookin at it

Thanks for all the great comments and observations. I am not experienced enough with MOPARS in general, or Dusters in particular, to see and appreciate these small, but important details. I'm gonna call the dealer today and ask about the VIN and options data plates, and find out how much or how little he actually knows about this car.

I would want too see it up close and personal. Wrong color engine, shackles on leaf springs, some odd pockets sewn onto the door panels and really rusty turn signal stalk could mean someone left the window open many times in the rain or flood, these could all be minor issues, again I would want too see it in person and confirm it's an H code.
By "H" code, do you mean a real Duster 340 and not a replacement motor that has been transplanted? Does the H code designation appear as an option code or is it in the VIN?

H code refers to a "340" Duster. The vin would read VS29H2..V for Valiant, S for special, 29 is 2dr coupe, H is for 340V8 and 2 for 1972.

OH, I agree heard about VOLO few years back, had to see it myself. But if we HAD the money what difference would it all make. Me..poor people have poor ways, I should have taken Johnnys' job when they offer it to me..lol

Pics of the VIN and options codes plate are supposedly on their way to me. (I will share those photos on here, if I do receive them). I let him know that the car was listed at $5K over average retail- no response from him. Dealer bought the car in upstate NY in the summer and drove it back to FL. He doesn't know for sure if it's matching numbers, believes that the mileage is accurate at 91K, doesn't know if the drivetrain is original to the car. The car is in storage and it sounds like he is not in a big hurry to sell it. More updates to come.

OK, here are a couple of pics of the data plate. Do I read correctly that the paint code is "EV2"?

IF this "dealer" dos not know if the engine is original, then what does it mean for him to think the mileage is correct!!???? Condition of the car is first thing, #'s engine is great, BUT IF not it is not the end of the world. Few muscle cars still actually have their original drivetrain.

if that represents the engine bay i'm betting the undercarriage is showing it's age too.
It may struggle to reach $14 - 15K

I am looking at this car, and I like what I see, but it seems like to me that this car is way too overpriced? Am I missing something? The car is being offered for sale by a classic car dealer in Florida, and I am located in Wisconsin. I would appreciate your comments, good and bad, about this particular car. Thanks,

Used 1972 Plymouth Duster For Sale
It's nice ,but I agree with you I think the price is a little high.

Seems awful pricey to me. I would pass on it and try to find one more locally to you or from a member here.

I can't help but notice a few things. One, he didn't send you pics of the VIN tag on the dash. Two, the condition of the Data plate and inner fender well don't match the outside of the car.
I can't help but think this is a cheap repaint car, that if you ask for pics of the underside of the car are going to show some very serious signs of it's age and need of repair, which will be expensive if you can't do yourself.
I had a duster with those same shackles, went through u-joints about once a month, until I replaced them with stock ones.
If I was serious about wanting this car, I would certainly ask for more pics and see if a FABO member close could inspect for you.. They will tell you upfront what the car may or may not need. Pics can and do cover some mighty shody repair work.

If you can’t see the proof of the work done with your own eyes and with the documentation then I don’t believe it. I don’t believe any said about a car’s history. I learned my lesson with my experience purchasing a car with a classic car dealer.

It's pretty rare for an A Body to go for over 30k

Note that 30k (U.S.) converts to over 40k (CDN) and, just go to cars-on-line.com to search and you will often see the one or two A-bodies that are listed (and often sold) for over 30k.
Compare that to (especially 1970) E-bodies - which are definitely not as rare as the (H or L-code) A's.
Important to maintain 'originality' - especially with body color and engine - IF you hope to get 'top-dollar'.
Remember, ANYone with deep pockets can create a 'clone car' but it takes a real man to restore one. (no offense intended) - anyone.
If that (orange) Duster was a 318 car, it could still be worth between 15 and 20k, in perfect condition, but as a 340, that could move up to between 20 and 25k. And, one of the rarest of all would be a '74 (Dart/Duster) with the L-code engine AND - - D21 trans.
