I got the 360 engine in my 1998 ZJ 5.9. Looking to make it faster, I hope to run mid 8's in 1/8 mile hopefully N/A no nitrous. Without stroking engine. Right now it's stock.

any tips or ideas? Some say doing roller rockers 1.7 will give me more gains then cam. But if i do cam and roller rocker. That should net me some decent gains. Then exhaust. Headers. Tune. Should be good for 300/310hp.

cam will do much more than roller rockers but roller rockers are much easier
but how are you going to fix the bad geometry?
go to http://www.b3racingengines.com/techcorner.asp
same problem with stud rockers as with shaft
do some research
esentially you have to raise the rocker fulcrum by the radius of the rocker roller
post up what you find
slantsix64 put a regrind in his- pm him and have him share the pitfalls and degreeing in challanges
are you carb or SEFI?
post up your cranking compression
what exhaust?
and WELCOME

so basically to get the most i'd need new heads for more lift?

what do you mean cranking compression?
Efi.
custom 3 inch magnum muffler

just a regular compression check with a gauge hooked to the spark plug hole , throttle open
god on the EFI but cam selection is special compared to a carb
no new head needed with cam or roller rockers
you may need new studs/ for adjustment
someone will chime in
do read the B3 4 articles so you know the end result required
and then figure out how to get there with magnum rockers
look up the "RT CAM" from Mopar performane not the one that came in RT trucks
and the "Sausage" regrind
make notes on their complete specs
and any others experiences with the 5.9 EFI combo
maybe jeep forums and truck forums
do keep us posted
my 92 has completly different OBD1 computer so i can't help you tune but you have a much better efi system to work with
Iceland- would not ever think of going carb
incidently the stock 5.2 early cam is bigger than the 360 cam , some have swapped or used as cores for regrinds

oh the compression is good, previous owner fixed intake manifold leak, recently, did new plugs and whole more, even compression test it was all even. Found utaperfomance (marty fletcher) apperantly he has utp450 cam which work for stock engine, he can also do custom if i go 1.7rr too.

I'm keeping efi since it works fine. I just ordered 52mm tb. Still trying to decide which to buy cam or rr. Some say cam is waste since i can gain similar power with 1.7 harland sharp rr..

Crane offers the R/T cam. Believe it was called the powermax 2030 if memory serves. 204/[email protected]" .458/.467" lift I think. You are limited to around .510" to .520" lift with the stock head. And .520" will be cutting it very close. I have the above mentioned cam with the 1.7 rr's in my 318 dakota. Really wakes the engine up. Here's a link TruckMax Hydraulic Roller 204/208 Camshaft for Dodge 5.2-5.9L Magnum

Is this the same as RT+10 cam? Seen a lot of dakota rt guys run them.. what 1.7rr you went with?

No, the crane cam is the first R/T cam that Mopar came out with. The R/T +10 has a wide 119 centerline. The + 10 is supposed to give 10 more hp than the original R/T cam. I have Crower rr's.

ill go for krc 210x with 1.7 and .600 spring also will check pushrods.

KRC makes some good grinds. That's who I bought my R/T cam from actually! Just watch with the lift of that cam that you don't hit the valve guides on the stock mag head. .526" lift is getting very close without modification.

Yeah. I might go for less lift cam.. but we'll see. I still need to up the money to buy both at same time

Have you ran it yet to see where you are in the 1/8 ? I personally installed 1.7 roller rockers on my 5.9 Ram and did not even drop a tenth. I think the couple of horsepower they may have offered didn't reflect on a 5000 lbs truck

i have not i would estimate around mid 9's or high. All i know now is mk4 gti with stage 1 + exhaust couldn't pass me from roll.. silly comparison

Mid 9's would have you in the 14's in the 1/4, usually

read what i said above
the cam will make a lot of difference -RR rockers not near as much if any and are a PITA to set up correctly- stock rockers are fine
