Here's my Dart...
DSCF0059-1.jpg

I started this project a couple years ago so I'll bring us up to date.

I work at a muscle car resto place in tucson and at the time my supervisor, who was building a sweet 69 Road Runner, told me that there was a Dart for sale in his nieghborhood. I met with the then current owner and after a cup of coffee I purchased it for $650.
There was some work to do so lets get started...

Make it a driver

DSCF0028.jpg

I began in the motor compartment it looks well, used. So I prepped and painted it B-5 Bright Blue Metalic, I like the color.

I was walking through my block with the dog and ran across a neighbor wrenching on a beautiful big block, freshly built and on a stand. I went up introduced myself and started talking. Turns out he had a 74 Charger that had been painted by my shop nine years before I had worked there, still looked great. I asked him what was happening to the 360 and 727 he was changing out of the Charger and ended up with it for my Dart.

I stripped, sealed, bodywork, and prime.

I stripped the paint and epoxy primered the car with B.A.S.F.'s Diamont epoxy DE-40 it was black and it looked awesome.

Here's a video I produced for a show I do on youtube where I introduce my Dart. The video also contains a little footage of my wife's Mustang that was hit-n-run smacked two weeks after I painted it and some funky music, sorry.

Wait until you see why I had to change my plans from the 360 to the Hemi.

This here is a video I produced showing Hammer and Dollie techniques on the right quarter panel to repair a side swipe.

And this is the continuing video for quarter panel repair.

Continuing on with some metal work to prepare the '72 for body work I made a video documenting the delete of my front license plate and side markers.

At this time my boss Seth purchased a 1969 Dart that needed a roof skin and I was able to begin body work on my car.

In this episode we will see rear fenders to the 1917 Dodge stripped and our plans for widening them 5.5". Then we will get a shop update on the 1969 Dart blocking and body work and prime on my 1972 Dart. Finally, remember the 1934 Ford, we will take a look at the fenders going on it and update on it's progress. Sorry for all the extra but it's an important episode for the progress on the Darts. The Dart footage begins @3:20.

Test out drivability.

Here is a video of the new wheels, I did the stockton wheel thing. Stock A-body 8 3/4, suspension, and 5x4" small bolt pattern. 15x8" wheels Mickey Thompson Sportsman S/R 26x10's.

Then we start driving the car to see how it's doing I had driven it a couple times to test; always had temp. issues, but got brake, axle seal, and alignment bugs figured out. Decided it was time to take it to the track, see how it would do. Keep in mind I had never been down the track before either. In this episode we take a trip to S.I.R. Dragway for the Darts first two runs. We will also see Seth and Alvaro's Grand Nationals and Chris' 1JZ Supra. The Dart did poorly loosing horsepower and floating valves we are going to do a leak down test and see what's going on. Thanks for watching.

Ohh, I had so much hope for the 360

Painting the jambs to the 1969 Dodge Dart Hemi Orange and the interior satin black. Pulling the 360 from the 1972 dodge Dart and tearing the block down.

A quick update on Jeff's 1972 Dart and how the short block bench seat and instrument cluster are coming along. The Dart footage starts at 6:30.

I get started on putting an electric fuel pump and 3/8" fuel lines in the 1972 Dodge Dart. You will see mounting ideas, plumbing, running and building an electric wire harness.

The 5.7 Fuel Injected Hemi out of 2007 Ram.

In this episode there's too much talking but I discuss the new direction for the 1972 Dart. That's because I wanted to get started on my new HEMI project, yes I'm putting a Hemi in my Dart. Let's get pointed in the new direction and get going, got your ears on.

They have the strongest suspension too. Hey, I've learned
most my lessons the hard way.
Thanks Jeffry.

Well after a year since the purchase of the hemi it is just about paid off, I told myself I wasn't going to buy a bunch of swap stuff 'till I paid for the motor. About Christmas time I did a mini tub, trimed a rear clip, frame section repair, & getting ready to replace quarters outer tubs trunk drop out... on a first gen Camaro in trade for my 545-rfe, TTi motor mounts and oil filter block off plate. So I had a little free time Saturday morning and was happy to set the Hemi in the car for the first time.

Sub-Frame Connectors

I spent a little time this weekend making some sub-frame connectors for the Dart. Spent about $40 and about 8 hours to get them ready for powder coat then I will be able to install them in the car.

Thanks for checking it out.

Spent a couple hours yesterday getting after the next big mock up in this hemi conversion. I got the cross member cut for clearance and the tunnel opened up for the 545-RFE. I will get it in place then get after the new cross member, tunnel and transmission mount.

Still having fun.

Step 2 trans. install

Took a little time and some 1"x 2" tubing to re-connect the cross frame. It's a bit larger than I pictured but I wanted a bit of overkill seems as though I'm going with the stock torsion suspension. I haven't installed it yet and will continue to ask questions, research and think about it before all is said and done. The tunnel is going to be huge which I knew but I didn't know.

I broke that damn sensor just before the tail-shaft housing I'll bet that's going to hurt:eek:ops:.
Thanks for all the help gang.

Couldn't live with it.
Cross Member Re Fabbed

After a little thought I came up with a new cross frame design to make for a somewhat smaller tunnel in the floor. Here is the video.

Thanks for checking out the thread and for any comments.

So I met a friend through the show I do on You-tube who approached me one day offering to do a scale model build of my Dart project. I am excited by the build and the amount of effort and skill that went into the model. It came out great.

Now I know all you mopar guys are going to notice a few of the details straying away from my project and I figured I head you off at the pass. MJ got a 71 Resin bodied Scamp to do the build and I'm told resin bodies are superior to plastic this I don't know from experience. So there are a few obvious differences between the Scamp and the Dart the most prevalent being the hood which was modified quite nicely to compensate but we have a Scamp grille and bumper. The other difference being the 2010 Challenger motor used with the car intake etc. which I would have gladly put in my project had I not come up with the deal I got on the Ram Motor. Hey this was a build offered to me out of the spirit of good friendship and craftsmanship So who am I to fault MJ on his awesome build of a 3G Hemi in a 72 Dart Scale Model Build.

Here are his videos of the build.

The build came out pretty cool, lots of detail, clear came out glossy for rattle can didn't it? I'll see if I can grab a couple pics off his Fotki. Thanks for reading the thread and any Comments.

Hey Jeff, just finished watching about 100 of your videos. You are an excellent bodyman and painter. Wish I had seen them before painting my car, defiantly some good advice in there. Any new work on the Dart?
