I corrected it. It was in 10 seasons.
Impressive for sure, but still not a record. Maybe he had the highest career winning percentage?
Any idea why he quit coaching?

Madden had a WICKED sense of humor. He told this story on one of his Bay Area sports talk shows:
During a baseball strike/lockout in the 1980s he was golfing with a few baseball players. At the first tee he told them that they needed to make the round "interesting". He said, we'll play full-contact golf. Puzzled, the players asked what he meant. He told that when they would address the ball to hit it, he would blindside tackle them...
He quit coaching due to his fear of flying, which he would have to do to get to any games any distance from Oakland. Truly a great guy.

From the web: He was emotionally stressed and burned out. Madden had a bleeding ulcer and a strained relationship with his sons which he wanted to repair.

Also, he refused to fly because of being claustrophobic. He had a meltdown the last time he ever flew.
Started travelling by train and then by motorhome (the "Madden Cruiser") which I'd rather do myself - much better way to see the country. The first 'bus' the network rented for him was Dolly Parton's tour bus.
Me and a buddy were talking about him 2 nights ago. Wow just weird. He was such an integral positive influence on every aspect of football.
I grew up watching him coach the Raiders, then onto broadcasting, then his All Madden Teams and video games. Decades of football greatness.
RIP John and thanks.
He holds the record for highest winning percentage which was in the 70% range.RIP. Definitely one of the all time greats. He holds the record for the winning est coach. I think it was 103 wins in 10 seasons? Record still stands.
I watched him coach the Raiders as a boy. Back when pro sports were worth watching. I loved him then and that's how I remember him now.
