Johnny Cash

Actually, "A Boy Named Sue" was written by a young lad named Shel Silverstein, who also penned the Irish ditty "The Unicorn"!

Your kids will probably recognize his work as well as he is a very popular children's book author!!
he also wrote a lot for Doctor Hook and the Medicine Show (like Sylvia's Mother)

Wasn't it Kris Kristofferson who said, and I'm paraphrasizin' hard here mind you ..

" Once John R sings your song, it's a Johnny Cash song "
not sure about that, but Trent Reznor, after hearing Johnny's version of Hurt, said it was no longer a Nine Inch Nails song, it was now a Johnny Cash song- might be where the quote came from.

He might have quoted either Willie or Kris .. pretty sure it was one of them. I did see an interview with Trent where he talked about that several years ago though and remember him saying that.

I love the Hurt song and video that John did

I dont think Im Johnny Cash!! I happen to KNOW I am :) Actually my biggest regret is when Cosgig asked me if I wanted to see Johnny at a small venue in Ann Arbor Michigan many years ago and I passed thinking we would catch him next time. Next time never came. Also the last time I drank about 15 years ago I was at karaoke in the bowling alley and sang 4 Johnny tunes. I did alright cause that was before the quervo kicked in,lol. Cosgig and I grew up listening to Johnny songs on the motorola 8 track in the family Duster.

Great song....you can feel the emotion in all his music, no country music today can even come close to the "Man in Black" :prayer:

Just heard Highway Patrolman on the radio Friday, stopped what I was doing till it was done playing

I saw him perform in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba while I was there for training back in 87. His brother was the commodore of our group and Kelly Cash (Miss America 87) was also there. Really awesome what he did for the troops.

One of my fondest memories...we were playing at a venue in Ann Arbor when my brother "blu340dart" showed up. We asked him up on stage to do a Johnny Cash song, "Ring of Fire" I think it was! Well, he nailed it, the crowd went wild, he left the stage like Johnny would've, and he's been a legend ever since!! One song and he stole the show!! Must've channeled all of his inner Johnny that night...he was mobbed by "his" crowd!! Nice job bro!! Geof

someone sent me this song a while ago

Yes,he was a very nice man. I only met him once when was about 11. That's all it takes when you meet someone like that, you don't forget. My grandfather worked for him; he did roofing and contractor work...... all and all a gentleman.......

He started life as a Gospel singer-Not to many know that-Loved most of his stuff till the end,Can't stand the last album he did,Some think it was his greatest but I thought it sucked,Just my opinion--Steve

I know I posted this earlier but still a fav............
