LA Block/Magnum Heads

I know... I know porting stock ones is kinda taboo, but they came out very nice. i'll post some pics in a bit if it's ok with you guys.. I had some guy at local machine shop cut one in half and down the middle so i had a real template of where the water jackets are
so i didn't ruin them..... be right back going to Stater brothers the wife needs something...........................

What head gasket I have heard la and I have heard magnum la would be thinner and give u more compression correct
 
i wouldnt recommend putting any money at all in the heads. porting, valves, springs, nothing. dont get me wrong "magnums" are a cool piece. but by the time you spend $1500 you could have aluminum heads. advantages = lighter weight, better heat dissipation, better detonation resistance, etc.

investing money on porting / machining iron heads is not money well spent unless you need the iron heads for a certain racing bracket that requires them, or you are doing a 100% vehicle restoration.

the advantages of aluminum heads far outweigh using irons.

if you are set on using the magnums, i'd say use them "as is" until they fail.
 
LA block .060 kb107 stock magnum heads i just got finished porting crosswind Dual plane intake and an eddy 600 and a new XE262h 1.6 comp rollers

That 600 with a K&N extreme (or equal) air cleaner with a K&N stub stack for the street or a 750 max size for street strip. The smaller carb will be ultra snappy and only be a hair shy in top end HP. I'd rather a Edelbrock 650 AVS myself set up like the above suggestion for the 600.

There is a wisdom here that's hard to argue with.
Surface , guides , seals , valve job and springs put you 1/2 way to a better head for sure. If I had to port them , it would be a home job because spending for it makes no sense unless you are playing in an iron head class and have to use them.

Looking, KICK ***! Keep it around 80-82 percent, on the intake bowl. (guessing 1.92 intake).With a 408,not ever enough intake port. Can't feed a street 408 ,too much intake port. You are knocking ,on the 240ish ,c.f.m. zone.That's ,A LOT OF WORK! Nice job!
 
Jesel was closing out 7.650 pushrods a couple monthes ago for $3 each (thats $48 a sat vs $98 from summit)

I am planing to put my set of stock magnums on a 1967 LA318 with a comp 454, 454, 218,218 @ 50 cam and crosswind intake topped by a 600cfm edelbrock,
(because it's all stuff I have collected CHEAP!) and drop it in my 66 barracuda, with an A-833 and 7 1/4 with 29?:1 gears, 205/70-14 tires dual exhaust using 1 7/8" dakota manifolds, (unless I find a set of 2 1/8" ones cheap) hoping for something a little hotter than a 273 commando, 235 HP + that will run on 87 octane and still get decent fuel mileage

I got a 73 360 I put that same cam in, with the summit lifters that oil through. Just got some Trick Flow 7.650" oil through pushrods and am putting heads off of a 318 mag on it.

How did yours end up performing?

Yes, the Edelbrock rpm for the Magnum head is what is pictured. It only comes in an air gap version for the magnum heads.
 
If the intake bolts point straight down, its for a magnum....LA intakes are perpendicular to intake surface on head, ie angled towards intake gaskets.
 
It says it will fit both? Supposed to get here today, so we will see. Going on my la 318 now. Gonna go pull a junkyard 5.9 next month. Hoping to put a cam, electric feul pump, and spray it.
 
My question is why put magnum heads on a LA 360 when Magnum 360s are so abundant? Not trying to be an *** but that is what I'm doing.
 
I'm not. The car is an la motor now. But pulling a magnum soon. So this will fit until the Magnum is in.
