Could you not have run a tap through it?
It is 1 and 7/8 of an inch by 18 thread. A tap that size might cost more than a new nut. The 20 bucks shipping was because its UPS which is guaranteed in 2 days or less. I would have have them send it USPS but as of late anything I get shipped from them takes 2 to 3 weeks.

Kind of a moot point but i wounder if a fella could us a regular tap like a thread file. Attach a flat bastard to the tap some how ( mechanics wire) tape the non handle end for another handle and go to town. Probable take forever but if the nut was unabtainable it just might work. Dont know haw bad you ganked up the nut. You have some tappomatc edge cream around? That stuff is great for easing into ganked up threads. Plumbers use it for tapping pipes.

I basically cut new threads 1/2 way in the nut. Once I found what was happening I got the thread file and fixed the shaft. I then coated everything in tap majic and tried to thread the nut on backward to fix it after a few turns on and off I figured I would stop before I damaged the shaft. I figured getting a new nut at this point would cost less in the end.

Didn't realize the nut was that big.

What if you turned the nut upside down and start it on the shaft? Would it not have straightened the threads enough to work? At least you'll get it back up and running.

Has Fred signed off now? We had contacted by text but my daughter said it's going to cost me every time I send one to him. Too bad as I wanted to keep in touch with him. Good luck Buddy and hope to see you back on here soon.
