Morning everyone. I heard from my daughter's friends last night and they said they won't get any power back on till around 6pm today. That's over 48 hrs without heat in this weather. I wish I had a generator I could have loaned them. That's one of the drawbacks living in the country.
Hope you all have a great day.

UPDATE... their power came on at 2:30 last night. 53.5 hours total without heat.

Do you have a generator?

I bought one last year
Got it all wired up and stuff...haven't had a single power outage since
Go figure... you spend the money out for a generator and now haven't used it. But it's there if needed. No I don't have one but we have a source of heat (gas fireplace) and we have two oil lamps and have used those a couple of times during a blackout and is a source of heat as well. We don't realize on how dependent we are on hydro until we don't have it.

Lived 5 years without hydro but now I think I would have a real hard time without it now.

Same as the Amish Fred. My son's neighbours are Amish and he just built a beautiful home and has it wired for hydro but doesn't use it. He does have a cell phone though because of his 3 businesses. He has milk cattle, builds sheds and does aluminum siding and eaves. Geez this guy works hard and even shoes his own horses. They have 6 kids and will probably increase in the future. Lovely people though and Chris gets to hunt on his land and they share the meat. The group bagged 3 deer this season.

Yeah, I can run the fireplace on gas for heat with the manual switches

The main reason (other then creature comforts) is the sump pumps
We got two of em, to keep groundwater out of the basement, and if they go out, well, its more then just a hassle
