I use the 3/8"-3/4" openings. That will hold almost anything over the fire. Get up there around the 1 1/2" you might lose some mushrooms

Yup, it's built with an old golf club We put the hook sideways on the shaft. Easier to get hold of the meat on the fire.
Sounds like a good time and good food.I have a fire pit in back yard. Once in a blue moon we invite a **** load of friends and family for a bon fire. Stay up all night drinking and partying and feeding the fire. The next day the fire pit is right full of coals. Feed it during the day and prepare a boat load of food for the can cooker. Chicken pork chop’s sausage potatoes corn etc pour 3 cans of beer with food in can cooker and buried it in coals in fire pit. Hour or so later pour it all into a cooler an dig in. Need lots of people, because there’s a lot of good food.
You want to try a can cooker some time. You can use an old cream can if you drill a steam hole in itSounds like a good time and good food.

If you buy a can cooker it comes with recipes. Try one adjust to your taste. Just like every other recipe you have tried. The first steer I shot at the farm, we were cutting up the meat. I said to the FIL I’ve never done this before how do I do this. He said cut a chunk off put it in the pot cook it eat it, if you don’t like it like that don’t cut it that way again.**** Murray my cooking is first grade and I still am trying to get use to cooking to pass the second grade.
