Leaf Springs

Not trying to be a smart ***, but what are you expecting for a 15 second car, a foot of air under the front tires?? Found this calculator http://www.wallaceracing.com/calc60ft.php put in your et and it said 2.10029 for a 60' time, you are not that far off.......

Did you tighten all the suspension bolts with the weight of the car on the ground? The rear doesn't even ris and plant the tires.

Ya that 60 foot looks good for the time he ran. But if he could lower his 60..........

i was expecting two feet! lol its just a slant car but its no stocker either...
yea the 60 wasn't bad for the ET but the ET should be low 14's... 13''s when get it tweeked right

yes and exactly... rear suspension isn't doing anything...

here i took a vid and this is what i got... same as track day...

[ame="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t2dQcnNZZb8"]YouTube - shackle angle test.MOV[/ame]

There's a position to 'the back or down @ 5-4 oclock' the shackles want to be 'stationary' so that when the car lift/hooks the shackles end up vertical or straight up and down, it's all in the chassis book...

When your car lifts, the angle to the front only gets worse, and they don't move like they should because there is no give, hence a 11 sec toads shackle resting on the frame...

The thing I see.. is you that u have some angle but just a lil, and no hook to work the spring much

Try it on asphalt.

ha ha ha get it now, no more riddles lol

so just to heavy of a spring...

ok well looks like next week i'll be stealing the 002/003 springs off my belve...

you might try cobbling some springs together or removing a leaf, but 1st you need to hook...then get the front to lift as fat as it can with no binding from short shocks, same with the rear.......After that you'll know where the spring is at.

ok well we have a bunch of construction around here so cops sleep infront of my house lol so i cant test it out here...

track on friday with good video... ordered new lower bumbers(missing) and will cut the uppers to let the front rise... i think with the 8.90 T bars are not letting the front rise....

so next week .830 bars and SS springs for the rear...

to me you dont have enough angle on the shackles thats the way my car use to be i had 02/03 spring on the 70 duster..what i did was made some spacers that i put at the back behind the leaf mount and it gave me a little more angle but not enough for my likeing but they are still there i never got the chance to try a diff. spacer...i only had 1/2" i think and my shckles looked to be about where yours are...the chasiss book calls for them to be back more to the rear to work right..now i did have my front hanger flipped to lower the car about 1" so that may have made some diff. but not to sure of that...my car would only 60' in the 1.67 at best but it would just clear the tire when i shashed the go pedal.. i think the car had a little more init if i could have got the front a little loose ...so i think if you try some spacers only paid like 5 bucks for the metal i think its 3.5 tall and 2.5 wide and drill your own holes i fig. i spend that on junk anyway wants it going to hurt....need longer bolts theres 3 more dollars and that should move the angle back more mike

also i tried a little trick a old racer told me about at the ttrack and it did help but i changed it back cause i was going to try some new shocks..he told me to get another bolt that would fit on to the shock bolt that come up in the front of the car and turn the bolt thats on the shock up loose about 1" and put the other bolt on it and tighten it so it would not move now you have a 1" of travel that you didnt have and see what the diff. is i tried it and it helped i was going to go with a qa-1 stocker star shock but sold the motor before i got the shocks or you can buty the shock ext. but if it dont help youll be out of that money so i say try turning the bolt up then push up and down on the front of the car and youll see what im talking about....mike

yea i was thinking bout that but if the spring is just wrong for what im doing why fight it lol... i can put the springs and t bars in my dads 73 dart and use my SS springs and Slant bars...

i just dont know if it is worth using the springs for this app...

i thought you where going with the 02/03 spring....thats what i would use but thats just me lol

yea when i bought the springs (XHD V8) i was told by mancini that they (Super Stock 002/003) were to bouncy and soft for street use...

otherwise i would have gotten them lol...

805moparkid; All good info on shackle angle you're receiving. I don't beleive anyone has mentioned this yet, but you should also check your rear shocks to make sure they are not fully extending and stopping your leaf springs and rear of your car from rising.

Easy to check. Support rear of car with jack stands under the frame, place floor jack under rear diff. Remove lower shock off of the stud and lower the diff until leaf springs stop extending. If the shocks are to short to reach mounting stud you need longer shocks or shock extensions.

i will check that

It could be that the damn thing is such a slug it caint torque the springs up. lol

Sorry. I couldn't help myself.

I have a couple of questions and comments.
What did you launch the car RPM wise?? What tires you run out back at the track??

Too me,when I watched both videos, is that your not bringing the motor up on the converter. When you bring the motor up on the converter, the back end will lift and then when you whack it,the springs SHOULD arch and give you more hook and lower your 60'.
If your running a true street tire at the track, you NEED a drag radial or slicks and either one of them will lower your 60' times.

Just my .02
