hello ABF,
I just got my 727 trans. rebuilt and as I was inspecting it I saw a small amount of trans. fluid coming from the pump area. I know this is not normal, but is it possible to leak a bit while transporting it from the shop. Keep in mind it was level at all times.

Front pump bolts use a sealing washer under them. You can substitute some silicone if they are leaking.

Take it back to the shop that rebuilt it and get them to correct the problem. That way, no warranty issues, and besides, most shops want you to bring it back for an inspection usually within a week or two. Crap sometimes happens even with the best of shops and builders.

What you are most likely seeing is fluid that was used to lube the pump seal ring (like an o ring but square in cross section) and other parts on assembly weeping out.

I agree with Dave and would also add that some of the common assy lubes are red, and you have to use a good amount to get the big O ring around the pump housing to go into the case opening.
Also fluid can be spilled a little out of the converter when it gets put in.
In other words a little fluid in that area is common when a new trans goes in and it is usually said to run it and make sure it doesn't continue.
Even a spot the size of a quarter on the ground is fairly common at first.

There is a gasket behind the pump, a big O ring around the pump to case contact area AND the sealing washers around the bolts so it's pretty rare to have a leak at the pump area unless the converter pump drive hub is cracked, or the tension spring popped off the seal on assembly.
