license plate restoration

I wanna find some blue and yellow plates for my 72 scamp....... Not sure where to look, though.....

Check ebay Mark, I've seen them on there from time to time. Expect to pay $100-150 though.

As far as restoring the plates go, are they that bad off to where some comet and steel wool wont do the job? Restored plates always look kinda funny to me because hardly anyone has them. It almost makes them look fake.

I don't think you can change your plates under DMVs YOM program. I'm sure only cars 69 and older meet the requirements here in California using black and yellow plates.

You have the letter sequence backwards. Blue plates have the numbers first and black have letters first.

You're right :D . I stand corrected :glasses7: .

*btw ... you live in Whittier ? I noticed the Whittier Chrysler-Plymouth plate frames ...

You save your old ones and get new ones. Same cost or cheaper than restoring your old ones. The guy that does them will only ship them to a different state than you live. They are for "display purposes only". But everyone run them.

I forgot the company Troy used to get these. I can find out.

Ok I found the name of the place.

The plates pictured above are $80 each. They are top quality.

I'm not sure why, but the black and yellow CA plates look so darn good on old cars. My car wouldn't look right without out them.

I agree completely . I cannot stand seeing those ugly *** new(er) Ca plates on an old(er) vehicle !!

Black/yellow = 1963-1969

Blue/yellow = 1970-1986

Personalised plates were intro'ed in 1970

I've seen early-build , early-sell 1970 cars with '69-issue plates on them , and have also seen held-over '69 cars with 1970-issue plates on them
( there's a '69 Camaro in town here with blue/yellows , as it was sold new in 1970 ) .

Was going to redo my 70 plates. Just not sure what color to paintthem to get them close. Lady at the DMV was nice enough togive m anew month sticker for them. Every year they send a year stiker but no month sticker. Lady was like why do you need one. Well I said I have had the car for 20 years and you never have sent me a new month sticker and you cant read it any more.

Any way just need to get around to doing it.

I'm doing the exact opposite!! I went yard saling and found the best weathered looking 72 Ky plate (couldn't find my county tho) that I could find. Ky doesn't let you register using the old plates but we only need plates on the rear of our vehicles so I'm gonna put the weathered 72 plate on the front. Should look as tho it came on the car.

I also couldn't find one with anything like 318, 360, 904, etc. so I just got the one I liked the best. I wanted one that was blue/white but Ky changed from white w/ blue letters to blue w/ white letters every year and sadly 72 was the white/blue year

i like that idea way better then restoring a plate

but you augta drop those rims in the pacific for a few months to match the plate ;)

LOL they're technically my wife's wheels so I'd better not! She was sad enough that I was using her wheels, I told her she can have them back when she gets another car to put em on. Lol
