This is a friends transmission that he bought for his 318 '75 Duster. I noticed this small black electrical plug and We're thinking this may be a lockup transmission. If so would it be ok to run it without the lockup hooked up? Could he wire in a toggle switch for the lockup and switch it on or off manually? Bob

The easiest way to tell is if the input shaft has about an inch of smooth (no splines) on the end. (but I don't think that is what that device is for.)
I don't think I have ever seen a switch like that in that place before.

Yes, a lockup trans can be run without using lockup, and yes you can manual switch a lockup.

I have no idea, but the A998 from my ´88 Dakota has got the connector in that same location.
i've got one out of an 85 5th ave. in my dart that has hydraulic lock up. was told around 87 they went to electric lock up, which is what that plug is for. i know i looked at an 87 5th, and it had the elec. lock up. dave.
