Hey, my 65 Dodge Dart GT has those cracks in the dash pad that they seem to be susceptible to. I was wondering who knows of a place I can find a replacement, or a cover, for not too much money?

Just Dashes will redo yours for a LOT of money. The last crack free dash pad I bought ran me well over a c note and the last one I sold (with 2 very minor cracks) sold for over a hundred0. What kind of money are you looking to spend at the most?

Remove your old plastic and foam from the steel backing plate.. Buy some high density foam ( thickness of your choice.) and use superadhesive to attach the foam to the metal, shape and form the foam with a sharp knife. Buy some quality vinyl in the colour of youir choice and form it around, using contact cement to glue to final to the back of the steel plate..

Worked for me.. If you don't like it when you are done, you can still buy a new one..

Good idea ken. I always like DIY options. I'd definitely rather do that than by it myself anyways.

There is a outfit in Medford Oregon that does dashes.

I bought a dash carpet cover for my 65 Dart GT at Rock Auto recently. I recall ~$28 plus shipping. I have them on 3 cars and think they look nicer than the bare dash, plus they prevent further uV damage.

Hey Bill
Can you post a picture or two so we can see how they look?
I'd spring for a new or redone pad if the Dart didn't need so many other things.
My fabrication skills aren't good enough yet to try Ken's idea.

Photo didn't come out well in the dark. After time in the sun, the dash pad should settle to fit better (car hasn't left garage). It comes with velcro pads to secure it, but unneeded since the Dart's dash is horizontal. The cutouts for the defroster vents line up well. The speaker is covered, but I don't notice sound loss in my other cars (haven't tested Dart radio yet).

My dash doesn't look bad, just a few small cracks around the speaker and a dimple where the front bumper sat on it for probably years (yes, inside the car when I received it!). The dimple is disappearing as the foam relaxes. I like the dash cover because it prevents further damage, looks better, and stuff doesn't slide around on the dash.

Thank you Bill for responding so soon with the pic. I hope you can take another with better light.
I've had to pour almost all of my 'Dart money' into getting it running good and being road-worthy.
The dash pad has the same 2" wide red tape covering the cracks that it had when I got it almost 10 years ago (hard to believe). It came from Arizona and obviously spent a lot of time outdoors.
Most of what I've done isn't obvious to anyone but me. It sure would be nice to not have to see that cracked (and taped-up) pad every time I take it out.

Thank you for replying to this old thread, berneemc! My dash pad situation is still the same.
The one they sell is listed as for a '66. Are the '64s the same? I suspect so, but would like to verify because I'm willing to pay the extra $24 to have it dyed red.

Classic industries sells caps made from pvc material for about 65 bucks try there

ddettloff, classic industries buys from Palco, same manufacturer as the one for 10 buck cheaper than classic industries. and this one ships directly from Palco.
