I adopted Noah in 2011 from a local no-kill shelter. When they introduced me to him, he was alone and curled up on the concrete floor of his "cell," not excited to see anyone. He was clearly depressed. They told me he had been adopted out twice, and both families returned him.

I brought him home and he became family. At 105lbs, he was a gentle giant. Wonderful with kids and other dogs. He rarely barked, but when he did, the sound was deep and thunderous.

Over the past 6 months, his arthritis got really bad. Medication barely touched the pain and his muscle mass disappeared. I could tell he didn't have long. The last two days, he stopped eating and needed help standing up.

I woke up this morning and walked into the living room with my other two dogs to wake up Noah for breakfast, but he didn't wake up. He was 15.

You're not hurting anymore, buddy.

So very sorry for your loss.
If, us humans could find a way to bottle that joy these critters give us, and sell it, we would be wealthy!
Ah, the joy they give for free...we are wealthy.

So very sorry for the loss of your fur buddy. I know all too well the pain that comes with it. We are so blessed to have the unconditional love of our animal companions, sadly it is always too short.
You gave him a loving home, and companions, and cared for him until his time was done. He has crossed the rainbow bridge and is healthy, happy and full of life again, waiting until you are reunited.

My most sincere condolences. As a multi-dog owner who has dealt with this more than a dozen times, I know that nothing any of us here can say will help alleviate the pain you must be feeling, but perhaps rest easy in the knowledge that Noah lived his Best Life with you, as 15 years for a 105 pound dog is quite exceptional. He was certainly well loved, and loved you back in his own way, I'm sure.

Give your remaining two pups some extra special hugs and kisses, as most likely they are feeling the grief as well.

Our hearts go out to you.

Jim, Julie, Clair, and Belle.

Sorry to hear, thanks for giving Him a loving Home to spend His life in.

Thanks for all the kind words. Dogs and cats are certainly family, and they enrich our lives in ways people can't.

I made sure my boys sniffed his body before I took him away, and brought my neighbors dog over to do the same. I think it's important that they know he died, and didn't just "disappear."

I am so sorry for your loss. I lost both of mine this year. They were the only two I ever had and they truly were members of my family. I feel as though my heart and soul have been crushed.

Oh man, both in the same year -- that's really rough. I'm sorry to hear that. I lost my first dog 4 years ago, almost to the day, and I was an absolute mess. A good friend encouraged me to embrace the grieving process and not shove any emotions down, and I really think it helped me get through it.

Take peace in knowing you gave your two dogs the best lives. It gets better.
