I see shaft mounted rockers on the aluminum head. Does it have the Magnum intake bolt pattern or is it LA?If I were buying the replacement Magnum heads as something to use for a performance build........ I think I’d be inclined to spend the extra $16/pr and go aluminum.

The reason I ask is I have a Magnum powered truck using the stock electronics and I've been looking for a decent set of heads that will support a 408 and let me retain some sort of a longer runner intake with factory fuel injection. It’s an LA head.
Here......I’ll rephrase what I said......
If I were looking to put together a performance oriented build(as opposed to needing to replace some cracked original magnums on my pick up)......and one of the heads I was considering was the Speedmaster Magnum replacement head, I’d spend the extra $16/pr and use their aluminum LA heads instead.
You can use any rocker that oils through the pushrod, not just PRW. Some early Magnums have the oil passage to the head, so they can use standard LA rockers.Picked up the cast iron speedmaster heads today......look nice in a plastic bag....lol
dropped off a 360 crank to get polished....said I can pay went i pick up the crank....nice guys...
Thought if you used PRW rockers that oil thru the pushrod ...you can use the LA head on the Magnum block?????s
Well...... maybe a member here with a flow bench will be curious enough about this current crop of magnum replacements to get a set and start fiddling with them........ and post the results.
I’d be curious to know(but def not curious enough to buy some) if they are actually a newer revised casting that has 179cc-ish intake runner volume(like advertised)....... or if it’s the same basic casting that Jesse fooled with a few years back that was only like 152cc, and wasn’t any more of a “performance” head than a stock Magnum head.
At some point...... I’m sure there will be answers.
If Indy re-releases the LAX/MAX head....... those will probably end up being a better option for a performance oriented build.
Of course...... there’s also the Ede Magnum Head.
Probably...and probably in the near furture.Aren't the speed master heads made in China?
I thought there was another recent player in the sbm head game?

Things are so cheap, ive learned long ago that picky is the man who can't do the work himself. Not a knock on anyone, but these are what speedmaster aluminum is to reg eddy aluminum.
Nothing wrong with them at all, for magnum heads. Lol... I'm partial to LA shaft mount stuff. They also weigh less than a rhs, i have the rhs to know. Its all in the ends and lack of shaft bosses im guessing. Decide for yourselves of course.
Totally agree that pics on the net are sometimes deceiving.I’ll be curious to hear what the as cast intake runner volume is.
It certainly doesn’t “look” as big as 179cc.
Absolutely.It’s an LA head.

I'll probably buy an aluminum LA set for another project.. but for my truck, that i use for work ,and has that big mount bracket and all those accessories like a/c & ps.. bolt on is what i need. The Machine they used to cut them.. tons of them, no wonder. Im going straight to 2.02/1.60 valves. Should have them on the flowbench tuesday/weds. But its just a 4x4 truck, if i just blend them and they happen to flow 250 or 260, good enough...maybe.
They're all chinesium, thought we've grasped that by now. Hey and you were just working on some x heads, those need much ssr work to hit 270. These you dont have to spend tim on the massive guide.Just looking at the pics you provided I can say with 90% surety that those are one and the same CCCN Magnum replacement heads AKA Chinesium. I cannot see them approaching 250-260 cfm without a TON of work. I can still order those from my supplier and revisit them but until I get struck with a masochistic urge I won't. J.Rob
