Magnum reseal questions?..

A new oil pump, or spring. Stock mag seams to be 50'ish max, get a m72 pump.
Something else I'm probably going to do..along with a milodon valley baffle to keep the oil off the intake all together n some magnets on top to make it a grabber in case something happens or gets in
. Be done with all that.

I hadn't considered a new oil pump. Do you think it's necessary? Have you heard anything about Magnum oil pumps?

I've already run into massive project creep so I guess another $50 isn't going to break me!!

The magnum oil pumps are perfectly fine.

Your rear seal oil leak might actually just be the oil sending unit leaking. I've replaced a couple of those on my truck, my dads '94, my grandpa's '96, and my sister's V6 dakota.

Thank you I'll look at that first...

Buy a new oil pump.
The magnum oil pumps have a lower psi relief spring. Roller lifters...tick on cold mornings right on Startup once in a while....

As I said in post # 5 the guy I got my 1500 from put a new oil pump and timing chain in it when he replaced the engine.
It shows right at 40 psi hot at idle. It does not leak or burn any oil.

if you have not already purchased a timing chain setup, get the kit with the spring tensioner. it can come in single roller or double roller. then you will never have chain stretch.

Let's fix that.

You will still have chain stretch but the tensioner will take it up, doing away with the chain slop.

I got the kit Friday but see no window till next Friday to start installing it...

Make damn sure you get the correct chain style if your going to use a tensioner. I used a double roller chain with the OE tensioner. It ended up putting plastic pieces through my motor.

I have pics at home.

ebay single roller item number 143050636314. double roller item 160953856107. i have the double roller kit in my 318 for about 30k. no problem so far. but i understand your idea. some people buy piece meal to save .35-.65 cents and it costs them.

The "single roller" kit you listed has the correct style chain for the tensioner. I think those are typically called "silent type" chains. The "double roller" kit is like what I used. The chain ate into the guides pretty quickly. I had something like 10k miles on it when I tore it down for a cam and head swap. I then pulled the bottom end apart and all of the bearings were trashed from the plastic/nylon shavings. I opted not to use the tensioner when I put it all back together.

I'm curious to see how yours looks after 30k miles.

Exactly. I replaced my timing chain and tensioner with a mad worn out chain so bad it retarded the timing. Great set up though. A shame it was only 175K on the 3.9 V6 (2003 Dakota 4X4)

Buy the plate with the bolts off of eBay for 50 bucks and shipping then get the $30 gasket set or 25 whatever it is and beat the Hughes price by $50.

DODGE 360 MAGNUM ALUMINUM PLENUM REPAIR PLATE BOLTS INCLUDED 1992-2003 5.2L,5.9L | eBay

That would have been great information about 12 hours ago...

I think somebody told you in April! See below.

So I've had my 98 Dodge 5. 9 for about 8 months now and my wife and I absolutely love the truck. Seems to burn a quart of oil about every hundred and fifty miles though. No smoke out the tailpipe and not a drop on my driveway? LOL I'm going out on a short limb here and assuming my intake manifold gasket is toast.

I think there are some selling that plenum fix for about 60 bucks now on ebay

Hey, some of us cheapskates remember good deals.
I thought I posted something about this but at the time I had so many irons in the fire. It's taking me till now to get all the floors done and blah blah blah Beyond life...
I swear next life I'm going to pop out of my mom perfect! I'm going to know everything remember everything and do everything correctly...
Until then I'm just going to have to remain flawed...

you know at first I was kind of kicking myself in the butt a little bit because I could have got that Part cheaper and no question I could have put this package together on hell of a lot cheaper. But I did finally open it today over a week later and was pleasantly surprised to see how complete it is with all the bolts and gaskets I'm pretty much everything I need to make it nice. Of course I have my own our TV and I can reuse the bolts and stuff like that but it was again very pleasant to open the package and see how complete everything is and ready to go nice and clean.. no longer kicking myself and we do need to support these people who are doing stuff for our Mopar's.. I mean let's not hand them our paychecks but if they are in or make a couple dollars that's what keeps them open.. had I known I could got it's cheaper I would have probably done it but in the end I'm happy...

Notice how he wished he'd had known earlier, but when pointed out that good ole' 318wr was, yet again, his buddy and had offered useful info, it's ignored. LOL

Matt bought a set of their retainers for his magnum, but I found their source for stainless valves and bought them a good bit cheaper.

I bought there spring kit (springs/retainers/keepers) for my magnum heads. I wish I could find the source for their spring supplier. Their springs are not larger in diameter than stock like the Comps that everyone uses. Retainers fit nice.
