Mid 12's with a 318 head 360?

I was surprised too. I beat all kinds of big block cars street racing back then. One of the few times I lost was to a well prepped 340 Duster. But I tell you it was 8.23
I believe you without doubt.

I built a few big block street cars I the 90s.... with 4spds. That being said, ain't NO car I ever had, jumped to 6500.on the tach instantly, with just a mash of the gas.. other than my 340.... they Are Badass.. ( no offense to 318willrun. Or 318s.. lol
I've had a Few of em, tuned up a few more, and drove some that WERE WICKED. The one in my D200, 4 dr It would leave a rolling burnout w/o the brake. Just sick, for what it was...

I've owned them all, 273, 318, 340, 360. I love the small block mopars, and 340's are special for sure!!

Yep, I have had a few 273s... and rolled around in some 360s.. Man, it's a Mopar! Unless they were ill maintained, ragged out, crapped on, ect, They ARE ALL GOOD. and even the old beat up ones would still serve well... then again, I've killed a /6.... but that wasn't drive error. Oil malfunction at speed.

This writing makes me ill... as I have sent a few down the road. I have one laying in the yard now, ( needed a rebuild) next to 1/2 of a 66 Sat.... nowhere to put it...

8.11 was the best ET for the day and considering it was his first time out with the car/engine and he had 3 issues with it he had to fix then it was only going to get faster. That 8.11 would place it somewhere in the 12.6's according to the calculator on Pro systems website Racing Calculators - Pro Systems Racing Carburetors

Not bad for home ported junk 318 heads with 1.88 stock valves done by an amateur not to mention stock rockers and a Carter 750.

Now stick that Isky Z35 solid cam in it and a single plane manifold and watch it wake up.

Nice coverage - great seeing some projects in action keep it coming

I watched the one video where he ported the intake port.

Good instruction by way of example for someone who’s never done it before.

I was pretty surprised how long he said it took him to do it though(1.5hrs for the one intake, 6hrs for 4 exhaust. That would be 24hrs total to complete both heads).
I guess you pick up some speed after you’ve done it for over 30 years.

We’ve been putting 318 heads on 360s since the early 80s. Stock head no work at all. Kim

Joe said that engine never ran over 5400 RPM because it would "bang out" what ever that means so he needs to figure out what's happening at that point. Mine had no problem going over 6K with a smaller valve and smaller port.

I think his ignition is to advancing to far.
You know what happens when that is the case.

Considering it ran 8.11 fist time out with significant issues and no time spent sorting it out then that really is remarkable for what he has in it parts wise. Most of the people on this forum could build that engine. Mid 12's with what could only really be called a mild street engine is a great result. Fix the issues and put a decent solid cam in it and watch it run. I thought those heads were meant to choke it to death according to the experts here...... Even in a some what mild combo they performed very well.

What would it run if it had 10.5 to 11-1 comp a decent solid cam some where in the 240's to 250's, a single plane manifold and a 750 DP? A lot faster than it currently is I'm sure.
