I can't afford a stroker crank, new rods, pistons, associated machine work. I"ve run 318's because that's what my vehicles came with. Never once thought I was wasting my money on those engines. I don't go for the "if you ain't getting max horsepower, you ain't sh*t" mentality." I like the UTG channel and his philosophy of looking at the whole build of what are you trying to achieve. Been in this hobby 40+ years, by the metrics of some of the posters on this thread, I shouldn't be here.
I don't think most of us here are against budget oriented builds. However if someone is offering up a plate of bullshit snake oil to the average Joe, that should be exposed.

I actually would be interested in what a well prepared, otherwise stock engine would make. I'd be interested in tips and tricks that would be accessible for a budget oriented buildup. If that's what they were actually doing I'd be interested.

However.... I'm getting totally hung up on the fact that they're talking about regrinding the cam. That **** ain't stock, and can RADICALLY alter the results of an otherwise stock combination.

And if DV himself is getting in the heads and intake with a die grinder? I'm sorry but you ain't talking any kind of low buck stock buildup anymore. The exercise becomes pure idiotic bullshit. Most of us aren't slamming Tony personally, but we are slamming the premise of what's being advertised.
 
The only one not in this thread and conversation is tony. All you bashers and haters are conducting yourselves like cowards. Why don’t you y’all confront him on his YouTube channel? I’m not interested in listening to y’all. I think his endeavor has merit, hope he carries through with it to the finish. I’ll be following, I have a couple of 318 projects planned as well. Now I have said it and there are others like me. A couple of you bashers I have on ignore and you have confirmed why and there are more ignores to follow. Your posts have no likes, agrees or thanks. Your opinions don’t mean **** to me.

UT has found 2 other guys, with youtube channels to "collaborate" with to build this 318. Nothing new, he has proven he isnt capable of assembling a near stock 318 and it last more than 2 or 3 sluggish runs. Ask Lunar and Nick's garage how that "UTG HOT 318" turned out. And if you think Vizard OR Andy will do this type of work cheap, you are delusional. So the ENTIRE premise is utter bull.... its "clickbait" folks, and that isn't hate, that's the facts.

Shiiiiiiiiiit. I used to have a wall of shame for all the junk **** garbage I bought and broke. At the top of the garbage list (bottom of the cess pool) are standard Crane roller lifters. Not fit for a decent 5 HP Briggs and Stratton. Straight garbage.

So yeah, you break parts when you develop and test things. The difference is oil pan technology is relatively simple. In a car with a 2 plus 60 foot time that shouldn’t be an issue IF the pan was correct.

Oh yeah, more junk **** cess pool parts. The Stefs full length box oil pan with 1.5 inch kick out. What a flaming piece of **** that was. I had the cost of the pan and then some in fixing that piss poor engineered junker.

That pan had zero oil control at the launch and on braking. But Stefs was proud os that turd.

Big difference between having a budget and using absolute obsolete garbage parts and then telling everyone how cool you are because you buffed a turd. Turd buffing isn’t cool. It’s stupid and it doesn’t matter who is doing it.

This whole fiasco does serious damage to the reputations of Vizard and Andy Wood. Not because they are working with UT, but because he has drug them down to his dumpster diving level.

I send him comments all the time. He ignores them because he is playing to his low grade audience. And that’s ok. He knows what his audience is BUT…there are those on the edge who don’t know or understand that IF you are going to do something like this it’s because you are dirt poor.

I‘d rather he tell the dirt poor to save a lot longer and end up with something worth having or go make more money.

And before you say some people can‘t just go make more money there is almost always a way to make more money.

Most people are broke because they are dumb **** stupid with money. Learn to manage your money first and THEN go build something worth having.

I don’t know where around here is but you would have to be on a mission to find them which I believe you are not. Just here in Wisconsin there are so many junkyards that are not on anyones radar they are hard to find. I have discovered 4-5 junkyards in the last few years that are in out of the way places. And this is not to mention 318s in private collections. I have 5 for sure, maybe 6. Couple of early ones, one is a 68 to be exact and I believe one is a later roller cam.

Most of the junkyards around here (central Washington) scrap everything when it gets 10 years old. If you are lucky they keep stuff that is 15 years old but that’s it. That means if it’s 2007 or older it’s gone. And thats IF they keep stuff 15 years.

There is more profit in scrapping the cars when they hit that age than to store, inventory and maintain them.
 
Only old Mopars nowdays, are in back pastures out of sight or hobbiest garage! With the exception of a few dedicated to old car yards.
Lots went to the crusher out of back pastures back when scrap went sky high and the dopers all went hunting!!

Why not show us what YOU can do instead of living off the work everyone else does?
 
Cam isn't going to be stock in the sense you might be thinking....they are taking a stock cam and having it reground to their specs
So his claim about "all stock or stock spec parts" is bs. Personally, I'm thinking a decent otf cam, Performer intake, and 600-ish 4 bbl are probably cheaper than an offset ground crank, custom reground cam, and tricked out BBD carb. That's not even counting the cost of what everyone else would likely pay for a custom tech consultation from David Vizard.
 
Uncle Tony makes alot of BS claims ...either people aren't paying attention or they are conveniently forgetting in order to prop him up.

People still play around but is it effective? have you ever been behind a kid in a Honda with a fart can spewing black smoke and stinking out the whole area behind the car . That kid is doing nothing but wasting gas because they dont know what they are doing and dint have the $$$ to do it right. Oh and it is illegal for emissions compliance in alot of states, I see cars like that and wouldn't pay more than scrap price for one of them after they have been screwed with and rendered jacked up mechanically.
Reminds me of me at 13 with my first slant six. I fixed it until it was worse. then someone took some time to help teach me. These days that is available through youtube. Lord knows the car culture has gone to ****. Many are too busy worrying about feeling like their stuff is superior to help a dumb kid who is going to break more than he fixes until he gets some skills and coordination.
Oh and since when do hot rodders care about legality.

Yeah if I had one hobby and one car i wanted to build i could buy all the name brand new stuff. But with a dozen cars and many other hobbies i enjoy doing stuff on the cheap.

I'm of the same mind. as soon as any machine work beyond typical prep for a basic, solid rebuild is done the whole endeavor loses merit. it goes against exactly what they set out to do which is see what a stock 318 can do.

wanna skim the heads to pick up some compression, sure, fine. find the best factory slugs and most attractive factory cam, that's okay too. make it a whole "what could be" that's cool.

but be forthright and honest about it because that's an entirely different build than here's a bone stock 318 and we only touched the top end.
 
I've seen some shitty bore reringed engines run pretty fast..leaving the "pencil protector" crowd scratching their heads..
