1956 Dodge D500-1 with 2 4bbls, 315 cid (285 hp) from the factory vs. 1950 Olds 345 cid, with 3 two bbl carbs and an Engle solid-lifter cam and kit. D/Gassers... High 14's @ 100 mph. I think the Olds won by a nose (Hydra-Matic) vs. 3-on-the-tree for the Mopar.

Picture taken at the Carlisle (Arkansas) drag strip in about 1960.

:wack:How do you like that crowd control??? LOL!!!

This one's a lot faster, and it's MOPAR powered.

Two-time S/S Eliminator winner of the NHRA's Seattle Northern Nationals (1979,`nd 1980, I believe.)

S/S rules of the day; Stock heads )no porting; stock valves; stock combustion chambers) roller cam; stock 4bbl Thermoquad; stock bore and stroke (plus a .060" overbore) and 50/50 weight distibution.

275 hp 340

10.29 @ 129mph... NHRA National record holder for a long time... Pomona class winner a LOT...

This was the one the Chevys hated to see coming...

Not a Gasser, but runs like one...

Thanks!!!

That car would show up at Pomona and run for Class with it being the ONLY MOPAR in the field, with 8 or 9 Chevys (327 and 350-powered Camaros and Novas) and usually walk away with Class honors.

Originally owned by Mopar Pro Stock standout Jim Meyer, it was sold to Steve Winter in about 1978. Terry Esslinger drove it while Steve owned it, and the engine work was done by Larry Hollums, in Fremont (CA.)

Then, it was sold to the Hahn-Loge-Winter team and just continued to get faster and quicker.

Len Schneider did the transmissions for it,

Those guys REALLY knew what they were doing.

I watched in awe...

Here's someones snapshot of Charley Allen's altered wheelbase car. It was a funny car in it's infant stages for sure. Note how far back the injector stacks are and Charlie is steering from the back seat. The next step was the floppers (flip top bodies)

Looks like a 1980 aspen

It is.

An IHRA Pro Stocker circa 1988 or so...

Low deck 400 block; 426 Hemi heads (yes, I said Hemi heads) 500+cid stroker, plus a 300hp shot of nitrous.

Ran hard enough to set and hold the local Pro Stock record at Eddyville (IA) Dragway for a long time...

Charlie Malyuke (R.I.P.) built that car from a wreck, built the tube chassis, and modified a 400 block to accept 426 Hemi heads, took about 3" (vertically) out of the body sheetmetal, and pinched the nose and tail about 3". Glidden looked at it at Indy, and asked "Who built this car?" Charlie said, "I did." Glidden smiled and said, "Nice car!" :)

Talk about your renaissance man... )

Here's the block, modified.:wack:
