hi Y'all,

having a hard time enjoying my patio due to pesky skeeters trying to attack. we have no standing water on my property, so someone else is breedin em.

so whats best, a mosquito vacuum, or a bug zapper.

i think hands down the bug zapper is good redneck entertainment , especially when a june bug gets stuck in there and its a full minute of fry time. but do the zappers really lure mosquitos in?? sure its cheaper than a skeeter vac by at least $299.

tell me what you think based on your experience.

thanks
Matt

Put up a couple of bat houses and plant some Marigolds.

We also use one of these, they work pretty good.

Probably to late this year but you might want to put up a purple Martin house, been told they love Mosquitos

Everyone seems to hate bats but they are good for eating them also

We have tried it all. By FAR the best thing is cheapo citronella candles or citronella lamps. They work GOOD.

We love bats. Got some biguns out here, too.

Bats are a real good skeeter hunter, one bat will eat up to 1000 skeeters an hour.

Just look online for helpful tips to attract them, bat houses are a good start.

I bought my brother a big 40'" or 48" fan for his back deck. The mosquitoes don't like the moving air and won't bite you if you sit in a little bit of a breeze. They are seasonal and are only around in the summer here.

Also I hear that mosquitoes favorite blood type is "O"... :banghead:

You don't have to turn it on this hard, just a nice gentle breeze will keep them away from you....

It is fun to watch them get ZAPPED in the bug zapper... zip... zip... zip....

skeeters ,ticks, and fleas don`t seem to be as bad as last yr(was terrible for my rottweiler), but it takes more than a gentle breeze for the skeeetrs in my garage!

Ticks are bad here this year. My neighbors dog got one and it almost died this spring. Luckily it pulled through after a few days of touch-and-go. I live across the street from a forest preserve.

citronella would be great, problem is i have 2 kids, ages 7 and 8 that dont leave anything the F@@K alone. i can see myself coming home from work, and those oily citronella candles in the glass candle thingys will be either broken, or upside down with the damn wax melted all over my concrete patio.

i tell em all the time not to touch my tools too, but one of these days i know we are going to end up in the ER for lacerations and or stitches. these are my step kids. since their mom worked a lot they were cared for by other folks.

my son is 2 and we are always saying no sternly, and he backs off whatever he wants to mess with. i am not sure i will have the same issue with him to near the extreme i do with the other 2.

its kinda funny but i have to preempt everything with these 2 kids. my wife and i have to say, well should we by this or do that, hmmmmm nope because the kids will do this or that to whatever. its totally insane.

but i digress the skeeter vac is cool, but expensive, and somehow i picture the kids f@@king with it like its a new toy or something. we had thought about planting lemon grass around the patio. supposedly the citrus smell keeps em away. any other ideas besides bats, tho i know they are helpful critters. my wife will get wierded out by em.,

Matt,
I'm in Denton and them Lil rat bastards are horrible in my back yard. We have a lot of stuff growing back there and that makes it worse. Sometimes I gotta go hang out in my lazy *** neighbors back yard where everything's dead and remarkably he ain't got no skeeters.

I bought like ten of those torches and they kinda work but ya gotta light em bout an hour before ya go out there and figure on about $10 a nite in Citronella. Those little candles actually seem to work better and the fan is good too, yup got one of them on the patio too. So let's see 10 Torches, Six candles and a fan.

There is a company up here, I think outta Flower Mound that will plumb lines and install these nozzles in your trees or where ever and on a timer two times a day they emit a fog that actually kills the bastards.
Kill = Good
About a grand, but every year I deal with this crap I get closer to installing it (they sell the kit for do it yourselfer's)

Best advice I can give is Aloe Vera will take the Itch and Bump away in 5-10 minutes and start cracking that *** and them kids won't mess with crap. (Well not as much, hahaha).

Got a camp fire or fire pit for roasting marshmellows? Try to burn a small short length of Cedar, out doors, won't be ANY bug for miles!

Even a small roasting fire in one of the metal pits from say Home Depot, go a long ways to keeping any bugs away even the little no see 'ums....

But I must say the lil rat bastards do attack with a vengeance if let unnoticed.....
