Years ago I had a 71 Roadrunner that was a factory 383 car with 383 call outs on the hood. I built a 440 for it and told everyone (chevy guys) it was a 383. One day I was in town eating lunch and the ballast resistor went out so I went to the NAPA store and bought one and was changing it in the parking lot when the guy who worked there (chevy guy) came out. He looked at the engine and said "that's a 440"! I asked him how he knew and his reply was "a 383 has wide valve covers like a big block chevy". I told him you're right, I can't fool you. LOL
 
don t know bout you guys , but me , I love walking up to mustang owners and asking them what year pinto that is? Or does it explode when you tap the back bumper?

Think the olds crowd get the worse end here / is that a 442 in there.

I see these as opportunities to play with these people , put some more confusion in their heads , add claims like : Yeah the 442 was a special op. between pontiac and olds and all 455sd firebirds have olds 442 diesel bottom end for strength.

In defense of the idiots, it was pretty STUPID of Chrysler to use 440 as a trim level. That'd be like them using 392 as a trim level now and putting it on the V6 and 5.7 cars.

they did, bit it started as a 330 as standard, then 440. The number used came prior to the Introduction of the 440. the C bodies were also known as the 880.
 
I don't know how to answer when someone asked "Did you build that?" No, Plymouth built it.
