Most hated question about your car?

-
After reading all the responses about dumbass comments I'm amazed that I've rarely had any. Must be something about a shiny red convertible that causes almost everybody to say "nice car", even if they have no clue what it is. A lot of people ask what year it is but not what it is. Some people will ask what it is, some figure it out for themselves after seeing the Barracuda script on the front fender. A few actually knew that it was the 67 -69 body style. Someone asked if I had restored it, I said "no, I bought it shiny but have spent a lot of time fixing everything from front to rear".

I like the reactions when they come over to check it out after they see it go down the track, and find out it's an iron headed small block

I do enjoy this as well! People always assume it's a big block for whatever reason. Nope. Aluminum heads? Nope. Have to run race gas? Nope. Street driven? Mostly. An eyebrow will raise and they'll say "Huh.....".

64physhy your post made me think of the last time I ran my car before tearing it down for the 6 year saga of a rebuild. I ran it up at Bremerton. I ran 4 passes between 11.67-11.64. We had my old duster, a crappy old car trailer, and a 5 gallon bucket of tools. We pitted next to some guys with a giant enclosed trailer a new duramax and a (not a Chivy fan) beautiful 70 Chevelle big block car. Each pass I made they would lean over and get closer to us. By the third pass my buddy catches them peaking and jokingly says "what you **** heads looking at"? They come over take a look and boy the questions started. Spray? gear? converter? Really iron heads? It was great.

I rarely have any problem with people asking question that bother me. Here to educate or let them leave puzzled.:D
What piss me off is my own buddies giving me **** about spending all my $$$$ on the drive train and the car still look like ****.......Hmmm save for years to build an all good parts 408 motor, or, get rid of all the rust in the rear quarters and paint..............yeah built the motor. hmm $800 converter or keep saving for body work........haven't got 800 dollars saved....but you know where it's going to be spent.
Hay i put frame connectors in.....isn't that body work?:p
when i built my 408, i told myself that i was going to tell everyone that asked, yeah it's a 340! no one would be to the wiser. NOPE, tell them it's a 408 and then have to educate, or let them leave Puzzled:wtf:

I get the engine comments all the time, same with the nova/chevelle comments. But usually I don't care, makes me feel good that people even noticed the car. Especially when it isn't even completed. As far as the engine goes and all the 360 haters at shows, I just tell them it's a 318 now.

When I have my 65 barracuda out of the garage I have one neighbor who always tells me that he had a Nova just like mine when he was in school. Obviously I try to educate him, but everytime I see him he asked how my Nova is coming along

them---"That thing have a hemi in it?"
Me-------"no its just a 440"
Them----"Oh so it is a hemi"
Me----"No its a wedge"
Them --- "HUH?"
Me--- (walks away shaking head)

Being engineering savvy in a world of idiots is stressful, but I still teach everyone I can to know as much as possible about the things I am working on for them at moment, so THEY better understand, and can begin to figure things out for themselves.

Everyone is ignorant, just on different subjects.

Is that a hemi. I tell them in 1965, the barracuda formula S came with the 273 commando. That is always followed by my whoever bought one new and it had a hemi. Gotta love it

At a car show I had a gal came up to me and gave me a hug and loves my Valiant. She said it was sexy. Her family has Mopars and she was driving a new Helcat. The only one that knew what it was even when I have a window sticker that tells you what it is people thinks it's a Nova!

For some reason, "what year is it?" always bugs me if the person doesn't know what kind of car it is. If I have somebody come up and say "Hey, nice Barracuda! What year is it?" I have no problem with it. But if it's some person who doesn't even know that the Barracuda was made before 1970, then it really irks me. I have no idea why.

Also the big block question.

I also once had somebody cruise by on a bike and shout "Nice camaro!"
Another time, somebody got up on the fender while the hood was open (engine running) and put a screwdriver on the valve cover. "Sounds like the valves need adjustment!" he said. I stared at him with a deadpan look and told him that it has a hydraulic flat tappet cam. He kinda just sulked off...

"What is it?"

"1972 plymouth scamp."

"What's that?"

"..... It's a 1972 plymouth scamp."

"But who makes that."

"Plymouth."

"But it looks like a Dart, Dodge makes Darts."

"It's a Dart with a Duster front end. Just like the Demon is a Duster with a Dart front end."

"Ohhh ok, what's it got in it?"

"340, like the badges say."

"Oh it come from the factory with that?"

"Bye."

OR

"340? That's a great engine, numbers matching?"

"It is a great engine, but no, these never came with 340s"

"Yes they did, from the factory, just like Darts."

"Nooooope, biggest they came with was a 318."

"I don't think that's right, they all had 340 as a special option"

"Bye."

How could you cut up a real GTS dart, it was a race car when i got it 25 years ago OH stock big block right no its got a big inch wedge

The car ain't been seen since the mid 80's lol... So if I had to guess the really interesting question will be the Floor and Column shifter setup in the car currently.... I figure the line will be we use one for racing and the other for street use...... Someone without a doubt will take it hook, line, and sinker lol.....

I put the MOPAR on the side so no one would ask if it's a Vega. Someone did. I get asked if it has a Mopar motor once in a while

I have noticed that a number of people separate Chrysler corp vehicles and the word MoPar as two separate companies. They look at the engines and wonder if that is a Chrysler engine or a aftermarket MoPar engine.

An example of this in another brand would be a Chevy car with a World Products engine.

LOL, at local car meets, I hear brand C F etc..... guys say, "He has a MoPar Motor in his Scamp. Man! There expensive engines to build, he should have stuck with what the car came with and saved money."
No lie!

"Is it a 383 or 440?"
Most don't know how to tell the difference. I asked, was shown the little pad RB engines have, problem solved!
Thanks to the owner and his ability to listen and teach a simple thing.
