hello all, I recently moved into a new house and don't want to piss off all my new neighbors (yet).

I was thinking to make mufflers slip on/off fairly easy so I can run the car at home with them on, and of course take them off at the track.

Just curious if anyone else has done this?? and if so, how? what? pictures?

I am thinking just a running a single screw into it after it slipped over the header...not like I will drive it on the street like this.
or some sort of pin.

its a 3" collector.

you could buy a pair of 3" y`s that have the side w/ a quick removeable cap.
oh, by the way, I just happen to have 2 new ones that have never been installed, I can send phone pics if your interested.----------------bob

I agree with the cutout suggestions above. They are inexpensive (the manual ones anyway) and easy to use.

So, the purpose of running. I'm assuming, for testing n such. But when you take em off your vacuum and timing map change, right? So, I fail to see the advantage. Just curious, not knockin' .

I think he's just looking to quiet the car down when he brings it home so it doesn't tick off the neighbors.

Cutouts mentioned above are the easiest solution.

I use these to attach my exhaust when street driving, and for quick removal at the track.

My exhaust exits just before my rear tires. With these connectors I can take off my exhaust pipes in less than 5 minutes, and re-install the exhaust in less than 10 minutes.

How about Supertraps?

No you didn't...

Don't they have some kind of collector inserts or something.

They should lower your exhaust noise to completely obnoxious and untenable. Which is one step lower than "I'm going to burn that new guy's garage to the ground while he's at work."

Bingo! This is what I use also(BandClamps).I can slide my exhaust off in 10 mins and then slide my extensions in.:burnout:

For around the house I really like these:

But for going out, say, the bank, this one works pretty good:

my intension is to simply have the car NOT have open header at the house, I will not be tuning/driving it there with mufflers on. but I do want to move it from the trailer to garage and run it now and then at home.

it currently is straight header, no pipes.

thanks for the links, I will look into them.

What do the ends of the headers look like? Are they straight, "race only?"

Go to a shop, get a piece of pipe that will go over your collectors, cut it in half, and then saw/ split two sides for 6" or so

Get about 4 big hose clamps, Lowes, etc

Then buy ONE big glasspack, and saw it right in half, cut out a simple sheet metal plug and takc in, and weld your pipe sections to the open ends. Trim off the outlets and you're done.

I have used some slip on mufflers that had 2 small U shaped pieces of wire welded to the muffler inlet and the header collectors, then springs were used to keep the muffler on.........think of a 2 stroke head pipe attached to the cylinder.

Ok, after reading through this all, I make a mention to the Warlock mufflers. Uncap the ends for a straight through unscilened pipe. Cap the pipe for a regular performance muffler.
