My First Mopar- 1966 Barracuda project

-
Been neglect this project but think I’ll start making some progress soon. Going to bolt the motor and trans together. Need to paint the engine bay, weld in floor pans, install the brake system...

Looks like you need a trunk lid. Took me a great while to find a decent one.
I found one and had it purchased... in Canada. As soon as the border opens back up the guy I was going to get it from is going to drive from Windsor to Detroit to ship it. He refunded purchase and said he’d hang on to it and I can pay him when it’s shipped.

Ah good, they are hard to find in decent condition.

Oh, I was quick to learn. He emailed me back today, looks like late November if all goes well... Bonus, he’s sending me his extra passenger rear wheel molding I’m missing, correct ‘66 with notch for rocker molding. Salut to my neighbor in the north.

Cool fact, it has no lettering holes drilled. They were sold as Dodge’s and Plymouth’s in Canada...

Wow generosity. Rare concept these days. Congrats. Fun following yours, working on my '66 floor pans these days.

Got the transmission bolted to the engine today. Having the motor off of the engine stand feels like a little bit of progress.

Removed the windshield. Got some welding to do. Pinch weld by the a-pillars had small holes which is what caused the bottom of the dash to rust out. Going to make the 64 Valiant dash work by cutting new holes and patching in A/C and gauge cluster tabs.

I would cut the valiant and barracuda dash both straight across where the dash pad bolts on and swap the rotted top section out, so the pad can hide the welded up seam.

I got my 727 linkage in the mail, will be able to hook up the floor shifter now. I had two sets of grill inserts, the old wrecked passenger and cracked driver came with the car along a replacement set. I decided to make the ‘82 Mustang hood scoop functional and opened it. I cut the crate insert and fashioned an insert that ties in the scoop to the ‘66 grill. I think it’s turning out pretty well.

Got my ‘68 Deluxe wheel to replace the 13” Grant GT it came with. FedEx delivered it two blocks over, not happy about that. Some motivation to get cracking on the rest of the interior...

Jumping around but cut the left side door and passenger panels, have to dig the kick panel cardboard out of the car. Original panels are shot, but glad to have them as templates. Bought felt and vinyl from the fabric store and they had a mesh weave I’m going to use as an accent. I’ll have about $150 into these in materials. Sure beats the $700+ for reproductions.

I'll be interested to see what they look like. I made a cutout for my driver side door, but haven't covered it yet in any way. It looks ok, but definitely lacks personality.

Cut out the passenger side interior panels and had to use a photo on the kick panels, the passenger one was missing all together and the driver side had deteriorated. Removed the last remnants of its Bithlo racing days and putting the window regulator back in. Waiting on the Landau top adhesive spray adhesive so I can get the panels gussied up.

You did a great job on the new interior panel boards! What is that....masonite?

Thanks, I’m not too bad with a jigsaw. I used a 14tpi wood blade.

Yup, the originals were Masonite (hardboard) and the vinyl was glued to the rough, textured side. I’m going to place a visqueen moisture barrier on the doors before installing these when I get them covered. The original kick panel was just a thick cardboard material so I went ahead and cut those out of Masonite as well.

I’m going to use newer nylon push tab fasteners so I can just drill a hole instead of having to cut several rectangular reverse pennant shapes the original metal clips slid into.

Getting rid of the original single pot brake master cylinder. The DoctorDiff adapter plate worked perfectly. Next up is to plumb the new lines and install the rear line pressure adjustment valve for my 4 wheel manual disc setup.

What are you using for disc brakes? Did you finish the door and kick panels?

‘74 Dart front disc and Ford Explorer 8.8 disc rear.

I might tackle the door panels today and tomorrow, I got the Landau top adhesive and I need to pick up a cheap spray gun and retainer clips before I can glue felt and vinyl to the Masonite cut outs.

Cool, looking forward to seeing how those panels come out.
