New Challenger HERE

unless your the kind of person that wants one right now, i would wait for the 09. the 09 will have more colors, more engine options(3.5 V6, RT 5.7 Hemi, SRT 6.1 Hemi), 6 speed option or autostick, and hopfully soon special editions like the TA version and possibly a Vanishing point edition. If they make a VP edition i would buy it. if not ill just wait and order one that is white with a 6.1 hemi and a 6 speed. I just want to ride in one and see how much grunt they acually have, the video on dodges website is bad ***

man does it look fat next to an original.... i'll take a mustang over the challenger.

My thoughts exactly. It looks huge...

I had thought about selling our '04 Mach 1 to purchase a new Challenger, but I'm not interested in that big of a car.

Had Mopar come out with a 2 door car with the Hemi prior to purchasing our Mach 1, there would have been no question as to what I would have bought.

I'm so tired of the looong wait that it's kind of anti-climactic to see the production car. 6 years from the first Hemi Ram until this? Come on:angry7:

Superdart, I think that there are soo many people out there that don't know the difference is what is causing the confusion. I have to imagine that everyone that has been a mopar fan for more than a day or 2 would know that the only thing "Petty Blue" and "B5 Blue" have in common is the word blue....

i will agree. thats the first time ive seen one next to an original and i think id take a mustang too.
the huge rims make it look stupid too.

I just can't wait to see what the fancy magazines have to say about it. Handling and braking are supposed to be top-notch. I would love to have one of these, it just sucks that new anything today is an arm and a leg. Not to mention insurance (God, I hate that word!) would be a killer.

I'm betting it'll handle pretty great .. I have an '06 SRT8 Charger and it handles like a sports car, stays really flat in the corners, and stops on a dime with the big Brembos ... I think it's gonna be an awesome car !!!

Well guys, I am going to try to purchase one in June. I say try because my credit is not the greatest. However, I am gainfully employed, have a rising credit rating, and was good enough for a 200,000 dollar home loan. So, I just might have one in June. :-D

I vote for the Mustang as being better looking and far more true to the original. In the Challenger you can clearly see the German influence. Those goofy big wheels turn me off, the interior as well. And:::the gas cap is on the WRONG side, any seasoned Petroleum Transfer Engineer will attest to that. No manual trans and being availible as srt8 only with limited production run makes me like even less if that is possible. I agree with an earlier post, for $40,000 I'd get a REAL (1970-74) one.

Wow, you guys wanting the Rustwang over the Challenger must be on the wrong forum. But, have fun and good luck with your new prize, I'm sure you'll need it.

As for me? You couldn't give me a Ford anything.

Keep in mind that the "$40,000" Challenger is the SRT8, so we are assuming you guys are comparing it to the GT500. Actually, the SRT8 falls somewhere in between the Mustang GT ($25K-$30K) and GT500 ($45K), so there's no way of comparing unless you are strictly judging by weight and looks.

I'm Mopar first but I'll be going for value. I'll be measuring the Challenger R/T vs Camaro Z28(or base V8 camaro) vs Mustang GT in 2009-2010. I'll choose the one that gives me the best overall performance for the buck. I think the Mustang GT has the edge. But we'll wait and see. These things may get a heavy rebate at the end of the model year. So far, it's too early to tell how things are going to shape until the Challenger actually hits the showroom floor BY VOLUME.

You guys are making some good points. After alot of thought, waiting until the 09 version comes out would be alot easier on my finances and could net me a better overall version of the Challenger. Either way, that car is going to be mine.

I've been thinking about trading in my '05 Ram for a new Challanger. I would wait for the '09's though... Gota have a 6.1 & a manual trans. ... with a supercharger :)

my thoughts exactly, mopars have always been more expensive than bow ties and blue ovals, If i was so upset about spending money I would have bought a nova or monte carlo, built a 350 small block with "walmart" performance parts. But no, i bought a duster, i went into it knowing that i was going to spend more money to go fast but that didnt bother me. If i could go back and do it again, i would of bought the same car. As a matter of fact, if i COULDNT buy a mopar I would have bought an AMC javalin or AMX. I like being different. Everyone ownes a small block chevy or 4.6 or 5.0 mustang. And when most of those cars sees a road runner, charger, or any built mopar, they usually look the other way when it comes to a race. As soon as im done with school and i can afford it i will buy a challenger. Make a few modifications, then dust shelby mustangs and keep up with vettes

just my opinion, i bleed hemi orange, no rustangs for me

In actuality the initial price tag of the Mopar may be higher but it is less expensive in the long run due to fewer repairs and less exotic hardware needed to obtain the same level of performance than the Fords or Chevys. So if it's value you want the only clear choice in American muscle is Mopar.

Ya know I have one on order, yep it is a lot of money, hell I have 25K sunk into my 64 dart and still need another 10K to make it cherry maybe more? But it is more of a luxury performance car. You can not compare it to a stang. I like the newer stangs, I think they are nice too, but you are comparing apples and oranges.

And the bottom line is people pay 40K for toyota's and wimpy 4 banger lexus and 50k + for a bmw, yet this car out handles most all of them, it even is suppose to corner better than a shelby version of the stang.

I think all in all it is a nice car for the money and for what is built today.

Nope it is not a straight line 426 hemi cuda from 70, nope it is not an early a body.

So that is why I still love my A body and I love this site too! These are just a differant ride and for a gear head like me that wants somethng stock that runs nices, looks decent to me, and is very comfortable,it fits the ticket.

Does it work for everybody? No way. We all have our own taste etc. I am just glad they built it, beats the hell out of driving a K car back in the 80's huh.... or my wifes plastic guttless toyota that has air leaks, squeaks and rattles and a chessy stereo for 33k.

Anyway I do respect all points of view and most make good sense.

No, Mopars were not always more expensive than bow-ties/blue ovals, just the opposite. Look at base prices of Road Runners, Super Bees, Duster and Dart 340s from back in the day. They were the cheapest! A BIG reason they were popular. They gave the most performance per dollar spent, just as the Mustang GT does today. When? the "base" v8 Challenger becomes availible it will not MSRP for under $30,000 as does the Mustang. With 5 Dodges, 1 Plymouth and 0 Fords in my possesion I am on the right forum.

Don't get bent out of shape Roy, I wasn't talking about the past, I'm talking about now and the brand x cars are cheaper. Not better, just cheaper initially.

BTW did you say you wanted a new Rustwang? Cause if you did I missed that part.

I understand that when they were BRAND NEW they were the cheapest but im talking about the modern day. I spend more money on my duster than i would of on a nova of the same condition. As a matter of fact i paid just under a shade of what my duster cost brand new. I just wish i was in the generation when i could have been around when the cars were new.

Well the Challenger was alwyas about 600-800 lbs more than most A bodies. In fact the stripped out Road Runners were most of the time with a 383 4 gear lighter than the E bodies too. But anyway here is a view of the old and new rides for size comparision sake.
