I chased down one of the Darts I described. It is a 1970 Swinger, and the owner had big plans for it. It's got a 318 in it with a Triangle of Death mounted right on top. Lo and behold it actually lit fire. The underside of the hood is black and everything looks charred. The filter was nothing more than a cage with black burn marks. He is building a 360 in his garage to be bulletproof, and putting some kind of monster cam in, and a bunch of different parts, and then he's going to spray it. :glasses7:

Any of you fellas know much about the Redding area? Plan on moving up to Burney soon an its about 1hr from redding

There's lots of little car shows all summer in every little town and berg up here. Some are larger than others. I like the little shows because you see different cars. The biggest show is Kool April Nites in Redding...and I'll be damned, it's in April. There's a week of show and shines followed by a big cruise Friday and the show on Saturday. It's a great event. I think there were 1800ish cars this year. http://www.koolaprilnites.com/

This area is Chevy/Ford country. Mopars draw a lot of attention, especially Darts because you see so few of them. Sometimes I can't get home because I get stopped in the Lowes parking lot or the gas station with people asking me about the Dart. Lots of thumbs up driving home at night.

Yreka, Weed (Rolling Weed Car Show), Weaverville also all have nice size shows but again there are literally shows every weekend in the north. Most towns have several per year. Here's a calendar from July on that has some of the shows. http://www.shastaclassicscarclub.com/calendar/

Burney has 2 or 3 shows a year it seems. I think the group up there is the Mountain Cruisers that puts on the shows.

Because we're spread out and rural up here you do need to drive a little distance to a lot of the shows but that's what it's all about. Getting out driving that Mopar.

It was 109 or 110 today depending upon which weather service you use. I have no air in my Dart daily driver but it doesn't bother me. I live east of town 10 miles so once I hit the highway it's very comfortable. Like my dad used to say, 4 at 65 air conditioning.

Burney is somewhat cooler than Redding although it's still hot. It was 98 up there today.

Not sure what else you like to do. Lots of hiking, backpacking, water sports, fishing and all that up here too. In the summer the lakes, the mountains or the coast are the places to cool off. Shasta Lake is the biggest as you already know but a lot of out of town people never get out to check out Whiskeytown Lake. It doesn't get drawn down until late summer or early fall and then never as low as Shasta. Shasta is very low right now and always kind of a muddy lake. Whiskeytown Lake is cool, clear and almost full. It's open for sailing, skiing, paddle sports and swimming. No personal water craft. It's a real gem. We take the dogs out there swimming too. I'm guessing you know about the Burney area and it's natural and man-made attractions.

There's also the Redding Drag Strip. http://reddingdragstrip.info/wordpress/ It's future is a little up in the air right now because the airport wants to add another runway.

We have a ton of tweekers up here in Shasta County but then now days it seems to be getting common everywhere. Certain neighborhoods are prone to burglaries by them. You just learn where those areas are and stay away. They pretty much concentrate themselves in the same neighborhoods and parks and in the old rundown motels south of town and downtown from the old highway system before the interstate was built. There are lots of areas without them.

Prepare yourself for a quieter, slower life style. The only traffic jams in Redding are on Cypress Street and it's intersections. Morning, the noon hour and late afternoon and there's good options to avoid them. The freeways and highways and surface streets keep moving. It's not at all like down there.

Any other questions?

Thanks for the info Robj. We are moving to Cassel, a few miles outside of Burney past Johnson park. My wifes family is from Burney from way back in the day so she knows all the back road stuff to do. We are a big hunting family so it all just makes sence when that comes around. I'm looking at a job offer at the Pacific saw mill before hitting Burney if that works out we will stay in Cassel. If not will be looking for a house in Redding or even the Palo Cedro area. Good to know about car shows, I know burney has a few each year. They had a 4th of july deal that my wife an boy went up for with a ton of cars from the pics she showed me. Im a big 4x4 nut to so the north is calling my name haha

We're actually in Palo Cedro. SPI has a busy mill in Anderson and is about 20 minutes from here.

Cassel is a cool spot. Hunting and 4x4's...You're coming to the right area!

Anderson was the second job resume place haha Palo Cedro is our drive through when heading to the house. Love that town

Second missed A-body Connection:

Me: 1968 Dodge dart 4 door driving out of Alameda through the tubes, at 11pm after returning from a bowling trip at South Shore with the girflriend.

You: Late 60s, early 70s 4 door Blue Plymouth Valiant, up past bed time, followed by 4 cop cars going somewhere in a hurry on park st.

Who's going to Spring Fling In Van Nuys in April this coming year? I'm trying to make arrangements for myself now. If anyone's headed down we should meet up.

im sure as hell going to try. This next year is going to be pretty crazy for me but id love to make it. My wife loves going down south so its easy to convince her. That would be fun if it works out, get a group of us to roll down together. Think id trailer the dart just if my wife gets bored she can take the truck, drop the trailer, and go do what she does best..........shopping. We have lots of friends down south so it would be a blast. lets get a poll so as of now count me in.

We are probably going, but if all works out we will be heading to the Spring Fling Speed Festival on Thursday and then on to Van Nuys.

I'm on peabody headed towards vacaville before going over the hill to the prison.

Up the road on peabody from vanden. Last set of houses before you go over the hill on the left.

I was looking into the cost for new set of race tires for the Valiant. Not sure it's going to fit into next year's budget. Depends on how our taxes work out.
