Have one year to build a 360 turbo'd beast to about 600 hp. This will be a street/road machine - probably with an overdrive. May only see the strip once for a time on street tires at Bandimere. Have excellent assistance with the build, but need a few parts: complete rear axle - except brakes. Want 489 w/3.91's - assume this is a large bolt pattern. It's been over 40 yrs. since my last project, so pretty rusty on terminology & knowledge. The turbo will be custom & that's covered (headers & turbo), block, too. Would be interested in hearing about heads, want some kind of injection, so I can go from MN to over the Rockies w/o stopping to re-jet, pistons, starting to lean toward a manual tranny - just for fun, but an auto w/the right gearing & the overdrive might be okay, too. This car has almost perfect metal, but trashed interior - not bad for 45 years old. Leaning toward a metalic red, with custom red/black hood with functional scoops for the turbo and a stripe somewhere - probably similar to the tasty new Challenger look, but my Mopar guru is an artist, so I'm letting him have his way on a lot of the detail. I'm 66, so this is my second childhood. Have owned a '64, 426 wedge 4-spd, post Savoy; '67 Coronet 440 R/T; and a '66 (one of 22 model/yr) Belvedere I, HP2, hemi 4-spd. All gone now. :pale:

That's a tall order, good luck. Welcome to FABO. Like your taste, in past owned Mopars.

Can't tell if the "turn their own wrenches" comment was for me or not, but so you'll sleep better at night, although I am not a mechanic by trade, I own more tools than Tim Allen and have rebuilt engines & done quite a lot of my own fixing over the years. When time is of the essence, I regularly request the advice and talent of people who are 100 times more knowledgeable than me in particular areas. Now if I could just get someone to bequeath me a portable, two-post car lift.............
Peace & love, man!

LOL no, that signature was set up a while ago and shows up on all of my posts. Most of us have to farm out some kind of work. My Demon is off getting painted by right now because I don't have paint skills or a booth and my paint guy won't let me help :crybaby:

What I can't stand are the people that throw a bunch of money at a car and have nooooo idea what they paid for. The wife of a buddy spent $18K on a '68 mustang. She prances around every car show she can find bragging about it, but when you ask her how many cubes... blank stare. Happy that she's into cars, but wouldn't let her drive mine :)

The fact that you're on this site shows that you care about the nuts and fasteners. Besides, you have a 72 Swinger: insta-respect for another Dart fan. Our cars share a lot of parts, so don't be surprised if I ask you a question or two.

Welcome to FABO! Lots of knowledge and experience here, shouldn't have any problems finding out what combos have worked and what to watch out for. 600 hp, geez, that should be fun!!

As we progress further into our restorations and I get closer to my turbo'd 360 install, we can pray together. The current lightly built 318 is probably at 275 hp. 600 hp seems about right for my second childhood. At a little over 3,000 lbs., it would be great to beat a Hellcat light-to-light. ;>)

Welcome from FL and a fellow Dart lover. 72 was a good year!
Thanks. May have a few questions down the line. This project will be over the next year, so lots of time to gain more knowledge and make decisions on the final product.

At first, I thought go crazy, then I changed my mind to something a little more civilized, then I got my head straight, backed away from an automatic (under the guidance of my 17-yr-old grandson), and decided to go with a manual and lots of hp. This will probably be my last screamer, so why not go for it? Right!!??

Absolutely!! Go as big and nasty as you want! Your grandson is a smart young man. I just got talked down off of the 440 6 pack 5 speed ledge. Mine will be a driver, so I can't go too radical and still keep it dependable for a 2 hr roundtrip trek to the office. There would be no space to work. The 340 will have to do.
