New Project

Ok. So here's a question. Demon is a slant 6 car. There is a 73 or 74 duster V8 car near me I can get for cheap. Should I go that route or go aftermarket like I did on the 72 Dart. Reason I am asking is I need to put an oil pan on the motor and want to get the right one...I was going to rebuild the suspension it is on, but can't find S/6 to SB mounts....

Finally got around to putting a coat of high temp black on this old school pan off the race motor. Everything back from the machine shop on it and ready to go back together. Still deciding on a pan for the 408 stroker motor.

Schumacher hasn't got them?

Saw them on there after I posted. First time I went in site it said not available. I have a set of S/6 to BB mounts but was going SB on this car. Taking a day off work on 10th to assemble 408 and need a pan that will fit either a S/6 K or a V8.

Picked up V8 front suspension....so that answers that.

Milodon 30940 I believe is the right pan for a stroker with street duty.

Race motor. Heads, block and pistons back from machine shop. Moroso deep pan prepped. Will go after this after 72 done.

You never gave the whole combination, lol. I like the small solid, over the crappy hydraulic. Solid flat tappets give better drivability, a wider rpm band, just kick *** over older hydraulic lifter non roller cams. You need more definition, on what you want to do, you will get better FABO feedback...

Ok. So I have a little time to clarify. 73 360 for 408 stroker. Rowdy street, smokey burn outs, and a trip here and there to play at the track. EDL performer Rpm air gap, ported J heads, valve job, etc. cam is the one in the pic from Doug Herbert here in NC .510 lift. Pistons and crank above. This was going in my Demon in front of a 904 reverse man valve body. Roller rockers. Balanced. My wife wants to start up her business so I am selling the whole set up when done, with or without the car, running.

The other motor I literally picked up for the heads. They were ported to match the intake etc. everything was tight but I had machine shop go through everything and check anyway. Repaired a small port area where they were agressive and did a so-so repair job. PRW 12.5:1 slugs. The heads were surfaced single plane intake Torker 340. All new bearings rods and Pistons checked.etc. plan on this was to rebuild to where it was only change the cam to a like profile hyd vs original solid. Upgrade to roller rockers over adj. was a drag motor and planned to sell as well as I don't have time for racing.

Getting to this after Garlits trip. 408 stroker. Decisions to make.

Ok. Not to be beaten. Stroker motor back to machine shop for repair. Picked up new Heads with big valves to replace the other set. Above motor is still for sale. All the BB motors are gone. Surgery kicking my ***. Can't lift more than 5 pounds. Demon torn down up front. When I can, going at it from the firewall back.

Race motor sold. Stroker motor block prep complete and will assemble in the next week or so when I have time.

Still waiting for machine shop to get 408 machine work complete. I would have jar of nickels if I got one every time I was told "next week." At any rate, sold the 360 and my other 440. Picked up 2 72 motors and a 75. Finished tearing down the 72 short block I got here as it was a possible drive train for the Demon and wanted to move it along. That motor had spun main bearings. Machine shop will need to address to make sure it is salvageable. The other 72 I had my brother go and get and stick in the shop back home in PA. The 75 is a potential motor for my truck. Not that I am not digging the slant 6 - 4 speed, but shoving a mountain motor in there might actually make it a truck that can "haul!"

408 Stroker made it to completion....like it more than the beefy 360 that proceeded it!

Had my wife and son tear down the 75 440. Motor was clean with little signs of wear. They did a great job taking it down.
