I just got a new 2011 Dodge Ram 1500!

The dealer is trying to sell me a detailling package called Master Shield that will included Paint Protection,Interior fabric protection, and Rust Inhibitor and Undercoating.

I found a website on it but it really doesn't give much information about warranties etc. http://www.mastershieldonline.com/Home/tabid/36/language/en-US/Default.aspx

Has anbody done this to their vehicle and is it worth it? To do all of the above it is $449.

Thank you,

What kinda warranty does it have? If something gets boogered up that that hooha is supposed to protect, will they stand behind it? Sometimes add ons like that can be good, but sometimes they are just a bunch of hooha.

I agree Stroker! Unfortunately, I don't recall what exactly the warranty is. I attempted to look it up and did not find much information.

I will call the dealer again and see if I can get a brochure or something more conclusive in writing.

Maybe a Mopar dealer employee will chime in with some information!

Thanks again!

we have that here at nissan, we call it a "pro-pack"
In all honesty, they are great. We stand behind ours for the length of your warranty, and we have our detail guy do it. He is great. I highly recommend it if you live somewhere with high salt content in the winter, our trucks that we work on have no rust and the interiors are so clean, every vehicle that has the "pro-pack"

It also helps the technicians out when they work on your car ;)
ps: nissan and dodge are tied in closely with each other up here.

this is how dealers make extra money. i worked for a chrysler dealer as a reconditioner, i would talk to the guy who did this protection to new cars in the bay across from mine. we both agreed it was a rip off. the fabric protection can be bought in a spray can for a few bucks. cars are made of galvanized metal these days and will last longer than they used to. you would most likely do a more thorough job undercoating it yourself with spray cans than the guy in the back of the shop who really despises undercoating vehicles and just wants to get it done. the paint protection is also available at parts stores and is basically like a wax that will wear off in a couple months its a sealer that is used before actually waxing. the rust inhibitor is where a small nozzle is inserted into all the small factory holes in the body and just sprayed where it can reach, basically a hit and miss deal that can clog up the drain holes in doors. my opinion is most of that 450. is going for labor since its probrably around 75. an hour (i havent checked in a while.) your new truck should already have a rust through warranty from the factory also.

Justin, I'm guessing ours is different, because we Rhino line for our undercoating, we use "venture shield" for the front end, and spend literally 2 hours cleaning, polishing, and protecting the interior. and it comes out to 350

SKIP IT! Paint is better than it has ever been, just clay bar & wax it once a year.

I work at a dealership..... skip it. There is nothing wrong with it, but it is all stuff you can do for under 100.00 and a little bit of effort. Chances are you will never use the "warranty" the imply with it.

Scotchguard your own interior, put a good coat of wax on you vehicle.
Undercoating is nice, but how long are you going to keep the vehicle. ??? If you plan on keeping it past the Rust and perforation warranty period then consider it.... it you are going to keep it only 4 years or so.... dont bother.

i am going back to 2003 when i worked for the dealer, makes me wonder if chrysler dealers are still using the rubberized undercoat.

As said before, extra profit for the dealership. They charge you big bucks for a $30 kit.

Thanks for the comments! The new truck is undercoated already so hopefully that will hold up just fine! I always go through this process everytime I buy a new vehicle!

The vehicle I just traded in I had for about 4.5 years and it had 85,000 miles on it. The dealer said it was one of the cleanest vehicles with that kind of mileage he has seen. So I guess I will keep doing what I always do which is wash and wax it!
