Is the Indy Modman the only inline 2x4 intake that can be used other than a Max Wedge intake?

I was almost sure the NSS inline intakes I've saw in the past were boxier looking than an Indy ModMan with a 2x4 top plate.

Did they make another inline intake prior to the ModMan?

What is NSS ?
 
I don't remember for sure, but back in the early to mid 70's the BBM guys ran an Edelbrock big plenum intake. It was nick named the "rat roaster" and had a single as well a a two four top. I haven't seen one in decades so the are probably out of production. If that's the case, if one is found it will be high bucks.

Indy's RB MW 'cross-ram' has been the 'go-to' intake for probably 20+ years now and there is very little stagger in the carbs. Beyond that you can use a conventional tunnelram for in-line. The modman intake has good potential but IMO needs a lot of work. I did an extensive rework on one for a buddies motor lengthening the runners and increasing plenum volume shown here along with Indy's MW crossram...hope this helps answer the question!

One item worth mentioning is some of these 'flatter' floor intakes can accumulate fuel and under certain conditions will backfire. It's a good idea to install a backfire valve to protect the investment. And the larger plenums really respond to the pumpshot of a holley carb. The inherent stumble is reduced with a strong signal to the carbs. We've had decent luck with AFB's on the modman I did but I'm sure it'd improve with some holleys based on A/F data.

How in the wide world of sports did the throttle linkage end up with that set up ?
