Get yourself a red brick snap on, they were the best back then I believe the newest update was to 08. Should be able to scarf one up fairly cheap now a days.... I have a snap on Solus ultra now. Cost me too many thousands.

Get something you can work on with a screwdriver and all those SAE tools I'm sure you have that are collecting dust. That you've already spent the money on years ago

Probably best to go to the local parts store and see what they have. I bought a Innova from Auto Zone. It does what I need done. Lots of different models so check out which one does transmissions. Just a couple hundred dollars.
anyone use the cheaper ones on amazon like 120 bucks or less ?
i bought one at harbor freight, works good for what i need checks codes on every brand that i hooked up to.
but i also have a DRB3 that i use on my daily dodge truck drivers which are all diesels up to 2005.But cant update the drb3 to go newer than 2005 either

The cheap ones will just be code readers, and then just generic codes that all manufacturers use. You have to spend good money for a scan tool that can access manufacturer specific codes and proprietary information.

I got this one at Harbor Freight. It reads and clears codes. I had transmission codes in my 2004 Dakota, and it read them. It reads any code that my wife's 2006 Saturn Vue spits out, and that car has a Honda V6 engine and AWD drivetrain. It's been a great help to me in diagnosing problems in our computer controlled cars. I think you'll be hard pressed to find one that TRULY reads transmission codes that falls under the heading of "budget".
I'm sorry, but I don't know. I emailed their customer service, and they are very responsive. They should be able to tell me if it does that specifically. I had questions before I bought it, making sure it would do what I needed.
