Old wrench guys.. just a quick 340 question.

Sure do Rumblefish! In the website Gallery you can see a brand new "Hot Heads" hemi timing cover shot in High Gloss Clear (along with work progress pics in the Before/After subfolder) and an old loom in the same HGC. There is also a steel distributor hold down in the same clear to compare with the results on aluminum.

The customer was a bit disappointed with the overall color of the timing cover ... it came out too dark for his taste so my "zero return rate" record may have to be modified soon. What I recommend for those wanting to stick with a factory look is the color called "Blasted Aluminum." You can see it on the 340 6 pak and Edelbrock 318/360 manifolds in the Gallery (there's also before/after pics of the 6 pak so you can see how it lightened the color). The Blasted Aluminum can also be cleared, keeping polishing to a minimum and regular cleaning fast and easy.

LOL @ slaying you all ... I'm just a powder coater.

OK, I'll check'em out.
So..the "Blasted Aluminum " color can be cleared on top of it?

Power..Sugar...whatever. <G>

hey leanna...
thanks for the info about powder coating. i use to run a body shop years ago and was the main painter. back then all you had to worry about was lacquer, acrylic enamel and regular enamel. someone tapped the left front fender of my jeep a few months ago and i was b.s.ing with the body shop guy... wow... the processes he was describing to me for paint today made my head spin. and EXPENSIVE... like $3-400.00 just for materials!! i don't know... i used to produce some pretty fine lacquer and enamel jobs back in the day... if you wet sanded them and put on some clear coat they looked great. i'm not convinced that the more expensive conventional paints today are better. but i will admit, i've seen some pretty nice looking stuff that has been "powdered" instead of painted.
and thanks for the other references... i looked at cv plating and white guages... both have really nice stuff.

ta ta for now... and remember... keep your powder dry...
jc ... steel town...

... So..the "Blasted Aluminum " color can be cleared on top of it? ...

Yes! All of my powders can be coated with clear, though it isn't really necessary to keep them looking new.
Generally speaking, I usually charge an extra $20 to clear whatever it is that I'm coating for a customer unless the part is really small (like a bracket or pulley). And then it's cheaper.
