I went to get up from my chair tonight and O MY GOD my left Quadriceps leg muscle cramped up. I never had that muscle do that before. Now as i am trying to bend my leg at the knee to give me some sort of relief my left Hamstring muscle cramps up also. I have had my hamstring muscles cramp up on me before & to give you some sort of relief you have to straighten your leg. So here i am i cant bed or straighten my left leg. Talk about pain. This went on for about 3 minutes. That doesnt seam like a lot but for those of you that get muscle cramps you know it seams like 10 minutes. Then to make matters worse as the pain goes away & i can walk i feel my calf cramping up but that went a way as i walked it off. After all that i needed a shower to wash all the sweat off. WOW i hope i never go through that again.

I get leg cramps (Charley horse) occasionally. Usually, from stretching after sleeping in a bad position. But I had a real bad one as I got out of my pickup at a rest stop, during a trip from az to CA.
My girlfriend got me some of this stuff, really seems to help. I have a bottle in ca and az.

I, to get real bad leg cramps. Dr. has prescribed several different things-none of them work worth a crap. Somebody told me to drink some Tonic Water-it tastes like crap, but usually makes the cramps subside after a few minutes. It contains Quinine, I asked my Dr. about it and he said they took the meds off of the market that contained the Quinine. Try it, put a bottle in the fridg-it tastes better cold.

You're going to think I am absolutely nuts when I tell you this but it works. When you start getting the cramp grab your upper lip under your nose and twist it just as hard as you can stand and hold it until the cramp goes away.
Ever notice that when you have a cold and you're rubbing your nose and blowing your nose you never have cramps.

The only times I've had bad cramps, I can trace it back to eating overly-salty foods (snack usually) and/or drinking alcohol, which means i am dehydrated. And it's nearly always in the middle of the night.

I never use to get them until about a year ago. I only got them in my left calf or hamstring muscle and i was always laying down in bed. This one was out of the blue. I also was told i was dehydrated. So i made it a point to drink more fluids. It didnt make a difference.

Check your potassium level. Cramps, and come from lack of potassium.

I've had brutal cramps for decades. My doctor prescribed 400 mg magnesium oxide in the past year or so. It seems to help. I try to stay hydrated which helps, too.

Or in my case, too much potassium. I must get plenty of potassium from fruits and vegetables. Now I can't eat bananas with cereal or ice cream because I will surely get cramps. My mom told me too much potassium will cause cramps just like not enough.

Blood work. Electrolite imbalance, glucose levels, & most important...vascular assessment & thrombosis markers. Don't know if You take aspirin or ibuprofin, but if not, try taking a dose an hr before turning in for the night. Also caffeine/caffeine withdrawl can cause dehydration/cramping.
If You have vascular restictions or thrombosis, You'd better find out about it ASAP, it can cost You limbs or life....I know 1st-hand what it did to My lady friend...don't F-around about it.

I have struggled with cramping ever since I was young. (I am 61 now)
The only thing that works for me is to keep hydrated and take some Calcium/Magnesium supplements with a minimum of 7 hours of sleep a day.
Massaging my muscles that get tight helps a bit too...
I have been through every test known to man over the years and the doctors can't find anything wrong.
What makes it worse is if I don't get enough sleep, work hard and sweat a lot.
Like mowing the lawn for an hour on a hot day for example.
I will surely get cramps, sometimes very severe in my calves, groin, sides, hands, and feet.
Sometimes if it's severe enough I get them all at once and everywhere!
This is my experience FWIW.

I don't know if it helps the cramps but it sure helps the taste. Vodka Tonic is a favorite!
