I want to use a unique air cleaner lid on my 6 bbl. The engine has a lot of aluminum on it and I think the stock painted lid would look out of place.

Plus I'm going to use these valve covers.

But I don't think this lid would look good on it.

Now, which do you think would look better:

OK...OK...CALM DOWN! I know what this is SUPPOSED to be mounted on *, but admit it, it's a good looking piece. In a recent event coverage in one of the Mopar mags there was a picture of a `69 `Cuda that had a 440-6bbl. with this lid, painted, mounted on a stock engine and it looked GREAT! I figure the chrome would compliment my engine.

OR.....

Although I'm not 100% in love with the flames, I think flowing body-colored paint into the milled flame lines might make this POP nicely, especially after it's been polished up.

But the again....

Keep
It

Opinions please!

* And for those whom are tempted to bash me for thinking of mounting a Chevy air cleaner on my small block, please don't post. We're all adults here (hopefully...) and I'm just trying to tastefully make my car stand out.

I'm not a fan of the Chevy piece. The triangle doesn't look tough enough. I think the stock six pack lid would look good, painted orange. It would look better if you could find a way to lower it over the carbs a bit. The flamed piece would look ok too, if it fits the theme of your car.
Either way you go, that is one fine looking mill!!!

Put the Chevy one on there, at least it will be able to see what the other end of the track looks like... And i think it would look great on your engine. That's my vote.

i remember the picture of the cuda with the chevy air cleaner, personaly i didnt like it, i like MtNemoMopar's idea of making the air cleaner sit lower over the cars but that might be hard to do/find a piece.

Im Not A Fan Of Chevy Air Cleaner Either But If You Use One The Plain Oval Would Look Pretty Good. (but Theres Nothing Like The Orange Mopar Piece)

Would it possible to custom fabricate a lid of billet alum. like the one in the last pic.
May be a bit expensive thou. But would look cool.

I would go with the Mopar chrome six pack lid!! The triangle one looks like a Shivvy part, everyone else will have flames. Just my thought!

John,

1. Thanks for the strategic placement of the valve covers, keeps us from seeing ya' in your skivvies! You are wearing underwear right? :-&

2. On the subject of valve covers, I don't see any breather or oil cap holes. How did you plan on venting your engine and adding oil? Very nice pieces of work though.

3. I like the stock 6 pack air cleaner lid. Paint it the color of the block or body color. Maybe have the valve covers anodized to match.

Yes, I was wearing underwear. Fortunately your couldn't see how happy I was getting those valve covers!

I took those pictures when they first arrived. I've since cut the covers for a pair of nice billet breathers, one with a PCV fitting.

Body color, huh? Hmm.... I'll have to think aboiut it. Amy seems to like it too.

promax carbs make a real nice milled aluminum one. check it out at promaxcarbs.bizland.com/sixhome.chtml

I would go with the stock orange cap. All of that aluminum makes me go snow blind! The orange breaks up the aluminum and matches your block color.

LOL! Thanks for keeping your "valve" covered!

If you do decide to go body color, i think it might be cool to get some repop stock 6 pack stickers to put back on. I thinking "resto-mod". Keep us updated. Glad to hear Amy liked it!

I like the painted lid whith that much aluminum. My brother had a chrome lid and chrome valve covers on a black motor that looked really killer. Sorry, just can't see the chrome and aluminum going together. Get rid of that orange water neck. I think someone makes a chrome one with an O ring gasket that doesn't leak. The chrome neck with a gasket seems to leak usually.
What kinda HP you plannin on getting outta that baby?

MoPar sells a nice thick water neck.

I'd like to see John dance a jig in that get up. I think Amy will tape it for us. Should be a scream. (Horror or other.....LOL)

Years back, I have on a rare once in a blue, seen a 6pak scoop made by Edelbrock with the 3 opening circles up front. THATS a killer look. HOwever, hood room may not be there.

Since tis is not in the option selection.....how about sometihng different to something familar? Now where I seen this, I just can't remember. Eastwood? Humm. Let me describe.

It is a painting system (?) that was able to paint on translucive (OUCH! SP!) colors. You could see the color and what was underneath the paint. So you could....in example, have the six pac sticker on a clean lid and paint the lid whatever color over the sticker and still see it.

Thanks for everyones input! The suggestion of painting the stock lid aluminum w/ the edge body color is a strong contender (read CHEAP....), although the aluminum might work too. The chrome factory lid is loosing popularity with me, and forget about the Corvette unit. I just might go with the painted lid.

As for the thermostat housing, I know it's low-rent. I was planing on grabbing an aluminum one like Rob suggested. The ProMax air cleaner is beautiful, but $300....although that's probably what I could get for my stock air cleaner if I auction it.

Hmmm....:-k

BTW: You don't like my Porky Pig impersonation? Just a shirt with no pants? :snorting:

Well I would not use the CHEVY 3X2 Air Cleaner for the simple fact YOU ARE GOING TO GET A LOT OF GRIEF BECAUSE IT IS A CHEVY PART.Also I don't think it would look that good on a MOPAR! I absolutely do not like that ball milled aluminum stuff with the flames,I do not know why but I just do not like any of it! The plain aluminum is GREAT I like that.If you like the chrome look then go with a MOPAR Chromed 6 pack lid. Personally If it were my car I would use the ORANGE lid.I think they look really cool and the Orange paint will offset all the chrome and aluminum and add color to the top of the engine.Especially if the block is the same color. The bottom line is you know what "YOU" like! So whatever "YOU" do! Do it to please "YOURSELF". Not a thing wrong with getting opinions from other folks but in the end PLEASE YOURSELF! Back to that ball milled piece! I see a lot of that stuff and some looks good on some cars but I don't know why I have just never been able to get myself to like those pieces.I like aluminum in all types of finishes,as a matter of fact I am going to use a set of valve covers like you have on my 416 stroker engine. And I may even have MOPAR engraved on them. But that ball milled stuff! JUST NOT FOR ME!

I agree you need pants on, I'm grossed out here!

Anyway, about that question. With those custom welded valve covers you need a custom welded aluminum air cleaner to match.

stock with paint, then air brush something nice on top that will match your car!!
