Out in a Blaze of Glory - Low Dollar 318

Too bad some people spending a lot of time and effort trying to convince people otherwise,
even though you given a easily obtainable proven blueprint to follow.
Seems like it was AJ that said he wouldn't meet his initial goal because , you know ,math.

AJ said that about my 360 Duster... lol Said he'd blow his car up if I hit the target :D

I wonder how he rationalizes your builds against his V/P index.

Just maybe there's more than one to skin a cat :)

I told him and others before....... "it's all great and makes sense on paper, but my car just doesn't know how to read" ..... :D

Couldn’t be happier as the low dollar 318 project of 2016 gave its finale. We were hoping for 8.9 in the 1/8, and were really hoping so bad for anything in the 13’s. Completely unprepped, we went on a whim and here are the results.

8.87 in the 1/8, 13.97 in the 1/4. And, we took home the hardware!!!

Congrats, sounds like you had fun and showed how a cheap combo will run! I'd be putting a cheap NOS kit on it and seeing what else it has, it'd probably run 11s without problems.

Id love to know what your cranking psi is?
There no question my 68 318 v/p dropped when i did 340 heads and street hemi cam but it was still much faster
when purchased
68 dart 270
318-2 headers duals 727 3.23sg
added dual plane 750 from a 440 faster again
then 2.02s street hemi cam torker door stop tuned 650 dp unilite faster again
then nitrous much much faster
Tunning makes a huge difference
Heck theres a guy on here with 380hp crate motor stall and gears running mid 14s so he says stock 340s cant run 14.3
I like the vp/index but my car was faster even when it went down
318
13 second mopar bible build its what i used
smh

Which is better High CR with low VE% or High VE% with low CR ?

Imagine depending on exact ratio's were talking about, but generally I bet that a fuller cylinder, higher volumetric efficiency with less squeeze is gonna matter more than highly squeezing less volume of air.

What is the v/p index and how is it calculated?
Cam Timing vs. Compression Analysis

"*V/P (Volume/Pressure) Index is a mathematically-derived figure, the product of the corrected volume and cranking pressure. It’s a very useful barometer of the motor’s low-speed power, and may be solved with new variables for a “before & after” analysis when modifications are contemplated. Anyone planning a cam or compression ratio change would definitely want to know how much the low-speed flexibility would be affected. Some useful insight may also be derived as to the motor’s tolerance of pump-quality gas (ping & knock resistance). The results of these comparisons are generally quite surprising!"

140…. At least back in 2016 when I checked it LOL

I can say going from the stock 340 cam to the comp 268h 218 218 454 110 106 its alot better low end cam and iam sure it raised the v/p index.
I did put a set of used 2.02s on to replace the tired x heads when i did the cam this was @100k miles on stock 68 340 other then weiand stealth tuned 650 dp 2 1/4 thru manifolds and a unilite . All stock@80k miles it went 14.3ish@97 even though fisherman says it bs id guess 13.7 now with 3.91s up from 3.23s That comp cam puts the stock 340 cam to shame. Didnt measure the cc of the heads so that could have helped or hurt the swap it still had good power the valve seals were junk. Building a motor today i would use the vp/index as a tool to get the best of both worlds.

There's no doubt about higher cr v/p etc.. gonna make everything better/efficient but doesn't mean you can build power with less than ideal, just need to displace more fuel and air :)
