Overdriven pulley how much is too much?

This is where book smarts and theory crash head-on with actual experience and reality .
In theory by the smartest folks on the planet, in their field, thought the Stage seal was good, the Challenger's crew experience proved different .

That was a known weak point, flaw, and known piss-poor design. Engineers couldn't make managers spend the money to fix it, and instead insistend on using up inventory on hand and then also didn't listen when told there was no way in hell it would be safe after the cold soak the parts got.

Theory always wins. It explains why things behave the way they do. When they disagree, there's always other variables not being considered.

I disagree, a theory is just that, a supposition to be proven or disproven.
I learned many theories, and learned they are merely guidelines to start a search, to be used in the environment I have to work in, to be modified as the need arises.
The end result of a theory can be vastly different than the origin.

Depends on what's called theory. The laws of thermodynamics are pretty solid, and when checked in reality they're always true. Theorizing that the moon is actually cheese is an entirely different topic, LOL.

You Sirs, with all due respects called my opinions "Hocum" or "Hogwash"
When you ridicule a man's opinion by extension you ridicule
the man.

I was born in the 40's in small town America and grew up in
the 50s and 60s.

Back then it was fine to disagree with a man's ideas and even
usually welcome. But when you fun of the man's ideas you
belittle the man and best be ready to throw down for a fight.
The man may be three times you age and 1/2 you size. However,
when you hurt a man's feelings = he will fight like a tiger that just
got out of his cage.

I learned that lesson young and the hard way at the racetrack (Going there since out
of diapers). I try to let a man leave the discussion with his pride and balls
intact. Life back then was all about "Respect". I was a brash kid and did make regretfully
a number of enemies for life

Now I know I am a Dinosaur from a time long ago, where you talked to a
person "Face to Face". Now we have to ability to never see the person and the
reaction, that makes it easier to ridicule someone as you will never see them. Back
then, the world revolved around tact and respect. Today I understand that that does not
make a of bit difference in today's computer ruled world.

I am simply a Hobbyist and not an Engineer by any measure. I do however endeavor
to make A to B and back to A tests. That is try something and the go back to the original setup
again one thing at a time. Despite what you may think I am not a Fool and really do not appreciate
your suggestions on how I may be doing my work. You do NOT KNOW ME (You never will)
and seem to make a lot of assumptions about how I work. I have a normal range of tools, but I am not in a position to buy exotic equipment I might never use more than once. Testing is easier and more pragmatic for me. I can then sell the excess parts on these sites to minimize my racing expenses. For the record I do have
a hand held temp gauge ($20 at Harbor freight). I can modify and then test the results on the car. After 60
years of racing you are welcome to check my wiring and with the relays I use the Voltage Drop is very
minimal and the wiring is neat and efficient. I am also the proud owner of a $10 Harbor Freight Volt Meter.
The quality of the National Competition is Intense and I cannot afford to Hire people to build my cars =
They are proudly Home Buil and built right! Again, You do NOT know me! If not, I would always be a 1st
round loser as I race again men with 10 times the budget and can afford to best shops in the country. I have
been Blessed by the Lord to be Successful, but some of the people have insane money and the resources of
being professional in the racing industry.
I know my cars and how and how they work = I still stand by my observations and have reasonable suppositions
on why they occur. I am not here to impress anyone - Just perhaps to help someone starting out in this hobby.
I have been working on race cars since I was in diapers = Please give me the credit to not assume I make
rookie mistakes.

BTW: We have a Data Acquistion system that records around 20 Discrete Variables on our Race Car everytime
they are operated. Of Course, my Kids have to download them on the Lap Top in our trailer for me.
My Sole purpose for answer PM's (And I get some crazy questions and still never belittle
or offend them) and making comments is to give something back to these Forum that helps me
to find parts and sell some unneeded pieces. A welcome byproduct is that I have made some
lasting friends on here. Although because of the distances involved we seldom get to see each other
face to face. Nevertheless, the relationships are a real blessing to an old and often solitary old man!
Most of my long time friends have long ago one to meet our Lord.

Just a few musings of a dumb elderly man trying to be helpful to someone.
Everyone be Well!
