P205/75 R14 or P215/70 R14

Well, Milestars are actually Taiwanese.
Nankang is a Chinese company that uses Japanese manufacturing techniques to make tires in Taiwan and all over the world, some here in the states even.

however, more specifically that Milestar MS775 tire is manufactured in china. just fyi.

and, yeah man. i know all about the pain the dick of shopping for 15" tires.... it gets even worse if you're looking for very specific sizes due to fitment and even worse again if you want anything remotely close to a performance tire that isn't a drag radial, or $250 a pop.

Go here https://www.tires-easy.com/tires/
Go to Walmart, good prices and free shipping.

Don't go to the tire rack or discount tire online. Too expensive.

+1.

I just bought 4 17" tires for my Dakota from Tires-Easy. Nokkians, Made in USA, regular price $275, on sale for $163, free shipping.

I don't buy from them all the time, but I always check them for a sale.

Bought my Uniroyal Tiger Paws for the Dart from Walmart because they were cheaper by far.
I don't think they were they were "special" Walmart tires (like "outlet store" designer clothes) – no special digits after their part numbers.
The Uniroyals were the only tires I could get in 14" if I wanted whitewalls, unless I wanted to pay stupid prices from the likes of Coker.

I used to buy from TireRack 30 years ago. They were cheap! Now I look there when I want to find the flat-out list price that my local shop will quote me.
If I need tires for one of my "regular" cars, and there's nothing on blazing sale, I generally just buy them from my local guy. He's got to eat, too.

One day I'll get my tire machine working, and I'll save a bunch more money...

.....and don't buy Mastercraft anything. Jes sayin.

Yeah I agree, Mastercraft is junk even though it's part of the US Goodyear/Cooper company it's one of those "enjoy our $1 taco at Jack-in a box of a tire" kind of relationship.
Goodyear is the only American owned major tire company left, Cooper used to be the other one, luckily they are still American owned as they got merged into Goodyear recently.
You have Hoosier and Vogue but they are not your regular consumer tire company.

Thanks for all the responses. Glad to see a lot of you have put as much time and effort into thinking about tire size as I have.

I'm really sold on the 205/ 70 R 14

The car currently has a set of dry rotted 215/ 70 R14 but I'm really looking for a "1974, this is how they looked in the 70s" look.

I see the 215/ 70 r14 do fit and look good but I think the narrower tire will make less noise on the highway which is where it is intended to be a lot.

It almost seems like the 74 duster has a bit more fender clearance on the front than earlier cars, could be optical illusion.

My car has a few feet of front tire clearance right now lol because I removed the fenders.

Looks like a nice start...
I do miss the white lettering. Pretty much all the modern tires now are blackwall, with some SUV & light truck tires having them.
I see some people trying to either paint them or put stick-on white lettering, it's just not the same. The paint looks like garbage after a couple months or less. And for the stick-on's I've seen a lot of them peeling off in short order as well.

I think I have it narrowed down one of those for a 74 duster with a 360 /904. I am after pretty stock appearing because I am only going to street drive it.

anyone have a pic of either of those sizes on an A body ? I will be using the original rally wheels
fronts on mine are 195/70R14 rears are 225/70R14 on stock rallyes....height wise I think anything more than a 205 looks a little big on the front, and less than 215 looks a little small on the rear. one thing to note, I still have the original SBP rear in mine and am using 1" thick billet adapters. pushing the rear wheels out 1" per side made a HUGE impact on the visuals of the car.

Princess, our cars (74) came with a DR 78-14 tire. The equivalent is a 205/70/14 and they fit perfect. Perfect for the front that is. On the rear they usually look better with a wider wheel ex. 8" with 4.25-4.5 backspace

technically the metric equivalent of a D78-14 is a 185/75R14

this pic is with 195/70R14's on the front after my disc brake swap, but still with the small bolt pattern rallyes running 215/70R14 in the back without the adapters and moving the tire out 1"

Jack in the box tacos are awesome.

Burger king has tacos that are just as good!
Well they're there, and edible. But they're nothing compared to the genuine article.
- They do taste good after a lot of alcohol... Even White Castle starts tasting good once you're sauced. (yeah, personal experience, don't ask).

Wait. There's someone, somewhere, who's consumed White Castle sober???

Yeah, me. I was TDY in Wright Patt. AFB in Ohio at the time.
I ate there again a few days later thinking "hey, I kinda recall eating there the other day & they weren't too bad", not realizing my senses were quite dulled that night. Nope it was gross.
- But hey I was still young and still had a lot to learn.

There are many versions of tacos.

Taco Bell is called Mexican food, but we all know it's Taco Bell food

I'm from So Cal, and when we moved to Colorado the natives thought they had good Mexican food, I just smile and nod my head. :realcrazy:

205-70-14s are the closest dimensionally to E-70-14 stock tires. I've tried 215-70-14 on my 70 darts and you have to be really careful of the outside edge (corner) of the tread and the lower front corner of the fender opening when the wheels are turned to the critical point - sometimes you can adjust the strut that holds that corner of the fender opening. Never had that issue with 205s. I also like them because I have 245-60-14s on the back and the sidewall height is almost exactly the same as 205-70-14s on the front.

While the size selection is always better online (compared to a bricks and mortar store) you’ll be hard pressed to get the tire date code prior to the online tire purchase showing up at your door. Sure you might get the size you’re looking for delivered to your door but it could already be a 2 or 4 year old tire. Actual store, if they want your business, will be able to call their warehouse to verify the date code on the tires before you pull the trigger on them. And that’s not to say an actual store will sell you fresh tires as they might only have old stock too. When I bought my Coopers last year, one local store checked their warehouse and the freshest tire in the 14” I was looking for moulded 2.5yrs ago.

14” tires will almost certainly ‘age out’ before ‘wearing out’ so why start 2 to 4 years behind the 8 ball when those online tires show up at your door?

If I asked the local guy I go to to do that, he'd tell me get the f**k out of his shop and stop wasting his time. He's got more business than he can do in any given day as it is.

Maybe things are different in YVR, but in the Northeast, I've never been in a shop that seemed the slightest bit inclined to do anything like that. The friendliest response I could imagine would be a look, followed by completely ignoring the question.

It shows the majority of that shop’s customers don’t care at all about date codes. And if that’s the case, then he doesn’t need to waste his time spending 10 minutes with you when he can process a few other clients within those 10 minutes with sales.

Interesting thing is every tire manufacture outlines date codes as do the major online tire shops (Tire Rack). Tire date codes are not a secret or some meaningless set of numbers.

The good news is you’ve got the choice to go elsewhere to spend your hard earned $. Why buy a 2yr old tire for the same $ as a 4 month old tire?

I use Uniroyal 205/70x14's on my 69 GTS. the rims are 5.5, and that tire is comparable to the original E70-14. I would use 215's, but that size does bulge too much for my liking on a 5.5 rim. I Use 215/70 on My charger, but with the 14x6 rim. F70-14 best as well.
In the 215/75x14 I have purchased The vercelli brand, which are made in Thailand. So far I have no complaints. They have stiffer sidewalls, and have a max pressure of 44 lbs recommended.
So, there is little or no sagging in the sidewall like I see on the Hankook.

Both brands are working well, but the Uniroyal is the better of the two I would say.
I also noticed the Uniroyal date on the tires were the same month as my purchase, VS 6 months or so on the Vercelli.

for what it's worth, the tires I put on my duster are Hankook Kinergy ST's...not the prettiest tire, but I'm very satisfied with the ride and grip both dry and wet. and the fact they were 60% of the price of BFGoodrich Radial TA's was a major plus as well.
